I thought cycling was a lightweight form of recreation until I took up indoor spinning and it is brutal. Great exercise. A bit of research later and it is onpar with rowing in terms of a cardio workout.

I think cycling should be moved to Exercise and Fitness.

Seeing some of Lamplight's great photographs of his rides, a point could be made for moving it to the Photography forum. LOL

Be thankful you have a forum. Golf has no forum at all. I'm confident that, with minimal thought, most of us could improve the organization of some of these forums.

If that's the bane of your life, then consider yourself very lucky.

Indoor spinning is good exercise but not really cycling.

It's not easy for sure but the real experience and suffering in the sport comes from being out in the elements, tackling a long and satisfying climb, experiencing the exhilaration of bombing down a hill at high speed, not being dropped off the back of a fitness training ride with a group that's been dropping you over the last few months, racing, using your mind to transcend the pain of a climb, stopping for a rest break with the group and chatting or enjoying the view, and so many other things.

Spinning is absolutely great exercise. I would absolutely encourage you to take the strength you've developed there and experience the real sport of cycling. There is so much more to it. You'll love it.

True! in Spinning, you can quit any time during the workout. In real cycling that is a luxury rarely, if ever afforded. I always have to get back to the Start. However, there's no coasting in spin class. LOL
