Does anyone know if Lakewood Country Club is doing their fireworks this year? I know Fair Park canceled theirs, so was just wondering if anyone heard word on Lakewoods. TIA!

As far as I know - it would be BIG news if they were to cancel. This year we will have the parade on the third since the fourth is Sunday: Lakewood Parade

I'm pretty sure the fireworks will be on Saturday as the routine is: fun run, parade watching party or enter in the parade, go to Tokalon Park at the end for the parade awards and beer kegs, eat lunch at a party or go swimming at someone's pool or both, take a disco nap, shower, change clothes and go to Country Club Circle to another fireworks watching party...then collapse with sunburn and beer-burn out.

We were there a little while ago, and the director asked us if we were planning on attending, so I assume it's still on.

Thank you both for letting me know. I live so close to Lakewood, it's easy for me to just walk up to the Lakewood shopping center and watch them from there.

There will probably be a big crowd at Whole Foods again - I think I heard that they were selling food and drinks outside last year. If I weren't going to the parties on Country Club I would probably watch from the Balcony Club or Times Ten.

I usually just walk up to the Lakewood shopping center and watch from there. Last year a friend of mine was in town and we went over to a friend of hers house and watched from her driveway. Either way, I just don't want to deal with Addison lol

Got an email from the club:

Celebrate the Fourth of July at Lakewood

Wear your red, white and blue for a day full of All-American activity at the Club!
This is the biggest day of the year at Lakewood, so gather your family and friends and make plans soon.

Sunday, July 4, 2010
Clubhouse Hours - 7:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.
Sunday Brunch - 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Bingo begins in the Clubhouse at 2:00 p.m.
Swimming Pool Hours: 10:00 a.m. - Conclusion of Fireworks

POINTS OF INTEREST

Parking

Parking passes will not be issued. The Club has limited parking so there will be security at the entrance to assist in directing you to available parking. It is advisable that Members, families and guests arrive in as few cars as possible. This is particularly important after 5pm. In order to ensure that only bona fide Members and guests are admitted to the Club premises you are kindly asked to meet your guests prior to entering the Club. Security will be asking for identification. To enter the Club parking lot you must have a Lakewood Country Club sticker on your vehicle. The Club will have access to the Wells Fargo Parking Lot at 6301 Gaston Avenue. For those who are interested in taking advantage of this we will have a shuttle running from 5:00 am to midnight. The van will leave from the bank every 20 even minutes and from the Club ever 20 odd minutes. For example: Leave the bank at 9:00, 9:20, 9:40, 10:00 and from the club at 9:10, 9:30, 9:50. If you have any questions, please contact the Front Desk.

Fireworks

The fireworks display will begin at dusk - approximately 9:30pm. Should inclement weather be predicted a decision about canceling the event will be made at 4pm on July 4th. We kindly ask that children be kept off the eighteenth green, chipping green and out of the sand traps surrounding these two areas. Sparklers are prohibited and subject to a fine by the Fire Marshall. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome, but coolers will not be permitted.

Note from Lakewooder - you don't have to be a member to watch just to get on the grounds.
You can easily see the fireworks from the shopping center (Whole Foods is best vantage point) Gaston, LaVista, Country Club Circle and a more limited view from Brendenwood.

Has anyone ever watched the Lakewood CC fireworks from Flag Pole Hill? I've heard about it but never done it. Just wondering if it's a good vantage point, albeit further away.

That's pretty far.. unless there are others you can see from there I would nix that idea -- not sure if LH or Park Cities has one..

We used to go to Samuell Park and you could see Lakewood from one direction and Fair Park from the other...but they aren't on the same nights this year.
