I'm a recently divorced mother that's moving to the Dallas area for a new beginning. I'm looking into the Plano Lewisville areas my concern is the safety of an apartment community and school districts. Originally I'll be in a 1 bedroom apartment until I get settled the kids will stay with their father until the school year concludes. I've been told that some areas you can have a rental house for what you pay for an apartment. I would like to be near shopping and entertainment being new to the area I wouldn't want to drive too far for anything. Again I must stress safety is a huge concern. My price point for now i would like to stay under $700 but willing to pay more once I get settled and transitioning moving my kids here. Thanks in advance.

So if you don't like driving too far why are you looking way out in Plano and Lewisville?

Where will you be working? DFW, just like LA, is huge, and you don't want to have a 1+ hour commute each way. FInd your job first, then decide where to live. You may have a problem finding a 2 BR apartment for just $700. A 1BR would be easier in that price range.

I stay in a 2 bedroom 2 bath, 1,100 sqft apartment in Lewisville on the border of The Colony and I pay around $920 after water and garbage is added. It's a very nice complex and fairly safe neighborhood. I used to live uptown and was charged so much money to live in some a conjested, smoggy area, I'm glad I moved out to the suburbs. It's about 20-30 minutes(without backed up traffic) away from downtown Dallas if you use the public highway i35. I'm sure there are apartments here that go for 600 for a one bedroom and fairly decent size for your money.

The funny thing is that smog wouldn't be so bad if so many people didn't insist on living 30 miles away from their central Dallas jobs.

Just sayin'....

Otherwise, Lewisville and Plano are great places to raise a family. You couldn't get me to make that drive every day though. If you're not going to work in the Lewisville or Plano area, I would look elsewhere.
