Then why does US News rank SMU at 56 and UTD at 143 on its list of best colleges for 2010? Compare - Best Colleges - Education - US News (http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/compare/items+3613+9741 - broken link)

Then why does Business Week rate SMU's Cox School at #12 out of the top MBA programs for 2010, ahead of 3 Ivy League schools (Dartmouth, Cornell & Yale)? I didn't see UTD's MBA program anywhere on that list.

In reference to the DISD, why are there two DISD magnet high schools in US News' annual top 10 list of the best public high schools in the US?

No, it's not ok.....and Big G's stereotypes are plain wrong. To set the record straight with FACTS (not opinions).....

Concerning SMU's reputation & performance:
1. SMU Undergrad ranks #56 in National Universities by US News (the rankings Bible). Only Rice & UT-Austin rank higher. Even Texas A&M ranks below SMU. UT-D is at the very bottom of Tier 1, ranking #143.

2. Did you know the MBA program is ranked #49? That would be 1 rank HIGHER than the "brainiacs" at UT-D's MBA program whom Big G brags about). Only UT-Austin, Texas A&M, & Rice have higher ranking MBA programs in Texas.
Forbes Magazine ranks the MBA program as #1 for ROI in Texas & the Southwest (ahead of UT-Austin, Emory, Vanderbilt and other esteemed MBA programs...not to mention piddly little UT-D).
Business Week ranks the MBA program #12 in the US, ahead of every other Texas program.

SMU's Average starting salary post-MBA is $80,052 (median $82k) with 25% receiving an average $16,000 (median $15k) signing bonus.
UTD's Average starting salary post-MBA is $64,391 ($16,000 LESS than SMU's) with approx 25% reporting an average $5,000 ($11,000 LESS than SMU's) signing bonus.

3. SMU Law ranks #46 in Best Graduate Schools for Law. Only UT-Austin ranks higher for Texas schools. UTD has no law school.

4. Even for UTD's "core competency", Engineering, the school is only the 4th best in Texas (behind UT-Austin, A&M, and Rice), ranking #76. SMU is also first tier at #121.

Now, regarding Dallas ISD.....

Dallas ISD 2010 school ratings:
EXEMPLARY - 66 schools (29% of district)
RECOGNIZED - 59 schools (26% of district)
ACCEPTABLE - 85 schools (38% of district)
UNACCEPTABLE - 14 schools (6% of district)

Out of 133 elementary schools, 43 (32%) are Exemplary and another 45 (34%) are Recognized. To have 66% of elementary schools earn the two highest ratings in a district where nearly 50% of students are Low Income and around 60-70% enter kindergarted rated "Limited English Proficient"....this is DAMN good! The progress being made in elementary schools over the past 6 years is raising better-prepared students into the middle schools and soon they will be in high school. The ratings continue to improve every single year.

Compare to other big districts:
Fort Worth ISD: 10% exemplary; 32% recognized; 53% acceptable; 4% unacceptable

Houston ISD: 38% exemplary; 40% recognized; 19% acceptable; 3% unacceptable

Irving ISD: 6% exemplary; 61% recognized; 32% acceptable

Richardson ISD: 75% exemplary; 25% recognized

Plano ISD: 55% exemplary; 39% recognized; 6% acceptable

And eight DISD high schools are on the Newsweek Top High Schools in America list from number 1 to 436:

1. Talented and Gifted
4. Science/Engineering
114. Booker T. Washington
154. Judge Barefoot Sanders
222. School of Business and Management
303. W.T. White
333. Hillcrest
436. Woodrow Wilson

Frisco's best finish was:

738. Wakeland
966. Centennial
1216. Frisco High

- the other Frisco high schools didn't place.

Well, I stand corrected.

BTW, how many National Merit Semi-Finalists did DISD have this year? And how many Nobel laureates are on faculty at SMU?

Nobel Laureate - Office of Vice President for Research - The University of Texas at Dallas (http://www.utdallas.edu/research/nobel_laureates.html - broken link)

Also, the late Drs. Alan MacDiarmid and Polykarp Kusch were Nobel Laureate faculty members. UTD has a world-class nanotechnology program.

Well I don't know about Nat'l Merit Semi-Finalists at DISD or Nobel laureates at SMU, but another Dallas school has 4 Nobel prize winning faculty members: UT Southwestern Medical School. Since you say that UT Dallas has more brainiacs among their faculty and student body than anything in Dallas, the Nobel committee must have been mistaken.
