It's hard to see how anyone could witness such things and not be affected. In this case, there were people still inside and the ambulance and fire truck were just arriving. Several people were trying to help and comfort those trapped inside.

It really puts things into perspective - I just don't see how anyone could rush past. Even if you are callous you would think it would at least make one SLOW DOWN.

No offense taken. It's just that blatant generalizations are my pet peeve on this forum so I often call them out.

Although I consider LBJ to be my nightmare highway, there are so many side streets to get you where you need to go. Midway and Hillcrest are my favorite ones northbound.

I find it hard to believe that traffic here is worse than in LA. Driving in LA is always a crapshoot. I pleasantly surprised when I DON'T get stuck in traffic. Granted, I don't know the side streets there as well as I do here but I have to figure that if there were great side streets, Angelenos would take them too and be off the highway.

And finally, if you live in someplace like Melissa and work anywhere south of George Bush, what kind of commute did you expect? Cheap house but crazy#($ commute.

If Dallas has the WORST commute in the nation NOW, what is it going to be like after the LBJ Project starts next year?

LA has plenty of side streets. More than DFW actually. There is just too little freeways for the amount of people that live there, believe it or not.

I could not stand driving for an hour one-way every day to work. However, I work as an adjunct faculty member in Dallas and drive for 1.5 hrs to get there, but it is only 2 days per month. It is worth the extra money. I think the longest daily commute I could tolerate would be 30 minutes one way.

I asked the same question to a man who is driving to Dallas from Durant Oklahoma (2 hrs) why he is doing it. He said that by doing that he is able to earn a good living that Dallas offers, but buy a great house for cheap in Durant. He is also able to let his wife stat at home with the kids because of the low living expences in Oklahoma.
I guess everyone knows what works for them. To me, the time away from my family would not be worth it.

The drivers actually aren't too bad around here. I'm a professional driver so I'm always one take notice of such things. You get the occasional slowpoke doing 57 in a 60 in the hammer lane (usually in a Toyota Prius), but overall people seem to know how to drive on the freeway here. Go to Salt Lake City if you want to see some awful drivers.

As far as the commuters, yeah I don't get it either. I guess gas is still cheap enough (at the moment) to make the economics of driving 100+ miles per day work in their favor, but it's a silly lifestyle if you think about it. I'll take an apartment in the city and a subway pass and stay the hell off the road if I have anything to say about it. To each their own though.

As an ex L.A. driver, it took me longer to drive 30 miles or so from Alhambra to Torrance than it does to drive from Aubrey to Irving, which is a longer distance. It is also my offhand opinion that Dallas has just as bad if not worse drivers than L.A., I mean really why is it that everyone here is afraid to turn left? Or why does everyone seem to drive 55 in a 65 zone in the fast lane? and not move when everyone else goes around them? Also for the love of Pete, please get on the highway at a slightly faster speed than the traffic you are merging with, instead of getting on the road at 40 miles and hour.

PLEASE: HANG. UP. AND. DRIVE.

I am not saying I approve of road rage or violence, but I understand where the rage comes from.

These idiotic "omg the drivers in <insert random city> are SOOOO bad! Once <insert boring anecdote here>" threads **** me off, but you know what pisses me off even more? Suburbanites who choose to live in the middle of nowhere in a tacky McMansion, then complain about the commute! You can't have it both ways. Man up and move to the city or stop bitching.

My commute from Lakewood to downtown is quick and easy.
