We live off Greenville and I'm participating in the 5K...this is our first year living in the area and I'm wondering what to expect crowd/parking wise.

Wondering how the heck I'm going to get to the race!

Any insight?

it gets ridiculous down there. If you want to make some money charge for parking! There wil be 1000's of people down there including myself.

How far off Greenville?

It's like a completely different city. There will be thousands of people and nothing but cabs traveling the streets.

I think I would park along Matilda, Birchbrook, Milton, etc..you will be there early enough for the run that there should be some free spaces -- just be sure to go up Skillman and avoid Greenville and Central service roads. When you leave go back down Skillman.

Or you could have someone drop you off at Lover's and Greenville then you could walk back home after the race, stopping at the center of the after-parade action around Greenville and Goodwin.

Also there will be a lot of taxis at that party position to take people home from there...

Look for a big U-Haul backed up to Greenville by Lights Fantastic and you will find our party!

I've heard about this parade etc...I was thinking of taking ACTUAL St Patrick's Day off--but I wasn't sure if people did that here?? Has anyone been out drinking during the day of St Patty's? In Milwaukee it was big--but I don't know about here if it's a big turnout of drinkers...

It's HUGE here. The street will be blocked off, people will be puking in yards, best holiday in Dallas for sure

actually just misread your post: The actual day isn't celebrated nearly as much as the Saturday celebration

As just mentioned, it is the Saturday before St Patrick's Day that is the BIG party. It's down on Greenville and it's been going on for YEARS!

The actual day here is not that big of a deal. Some places have green beer and such.

Now, St. Patrick's Day in Savannah, GA is a BLAST!!!! It's practically a national holiday there. Most offices and businesses are closed. Even the Tybee Island Lighthouse closes on St. Patrick's Day. All of the fountains in the squares are dyed green. It's fun and even suitable for kids.

Is the parade here kid friendly? Or is it pretty much drunken craziness that you want to go to as an 'adults only' event?
