Gosh I have to do this on a regular basis:

I've been going to Fair Park since I was in a stroller and I've never had a problem - nor have any of my friends or family. I went to school with kids on the north side of the park. There are a lot of good people there and I only know of a few who have gotten into some kind of big trouble. I have no problem going places on MLK, Park Row or South Boulevard. That area would probably freak out many people on this board. There are some bad apartment complexes south and east of the park I would probably not want to visit. And there are some streets with derelict homes and empty lots. Actually the farther southeast you go it becomes almost rural. Oakland Cemetery is worth a visit as there are many big names from Dallas history.

Yes there are many middle-class blacks who have left the area - some get an attitude about being better since they left but others go back for haircuts, beauty parlors, food, etc.

If the white man won't go to Fair Park then I think that white man has a problem with himself.

Yeah, but this isn't really about visiting the Park. I don't think most people have a problem with that considering the millions of visitors the park gets on a yearly basis. The OP was talking about putting up his parents to live there. There is a good reason homes there cost less than a used Jeep, and it's not because it's a great neighborhood to live in. It's peculiar that people are pretending otherwise. Again -- highest crime statstics in dallas. Those numbers are not debatable.

I could see buying property for investment. With the park and the rail station, the area has unlimited potential. But I sure wouldn't want my parents living there.

I agree. I wouldn't put my parents there. But I may buy up a block of houses, repair them and rent them out to decent hardworking tenants. I think the value of those properties can only go up. And if you make a $10,000 profit on one house you've doubled your money!

Those are some pretty good articles. I hope it continues to turn around along with the Cedars and Oak Cliff. I know I'm hard on Dallas sometimes, but I really feel like the stronger Dallas's core is the better it is for the entire metroplex. I actually hate every time I hear about something else moving from Dallas to Frisco or Plano.

We wasn't talking about Jerry Jones trying to build a new stadium in Fair Park. We was talking about the Cotton Bowl and why tenants left. I don't know how you got on that subject.

I don't believe I was wrong, I think he just posted the wrong info.
