Publix. Tom Thumb and Kroger both suck. Time to sweep them aside and get a good middle class supermarket chain in here.

El Pollo Loco : Flame-Grilled Chicken
They are in San Antonio. Maybe they'll make their way up to Dallas. Is Pollo Campero similar?

(For anyone from Atlanta) -- Publix, Chow Baby, and El Pollo Loco. I'd be in heaven then. I miss the Vortex as well, but Twisted Root will suffice.

Actually, I'm a big fan of Pollo Campero also which I understand was started up in Guatemala and is huge all over Latin America. Unfortunately, they shut down the location I was visiting in Euless. The concept is similar to El Pollo Loco but I believe there are some subtle differences (i.e. Pollo Campero leans a little more toward fried chicken and some grilled whereas El Poco Loco's specialty is flame grilled and they do it well). I definitely lean more in favor of El Pollo Loco for the taste advantage and better salsas but I do like both chains.

I rarely shopped at Publix when I was in Atlanta. The prices seemed too high and the selection wasn't as good as Kroger. The Publix chicken was really good though! I would take Tom Thumb over Publix, I'm more of a Kroger person though.

Never liked Publix when I lived in Florida.

Re: El Pollo Loco -- what about El Pollo Regio? It's flame-broiled chicken from Monterrey, Mexico and they're all over North Texas.

El Pollo Regio

Here's a Yelp review of the Carrollton location:

Also like Cowboy Chicken:

HEB. I know Central Market is a 'souped-up' HEB, but I mean the traditional HEB grocery stores.

+2 for El Pollo Regio. I love them and IMO they are much better than El Pollo Loco.
