First, let’s make one thing clear: Paul Quinn College (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Paul_Quinn_College - broken link) is on solid financial footing. While people continue to use words like “struggling” or “fighting” to describe the school’s plight, the facts are clear. Paul Quinn operated with a $500,000 surplus in the previous academic school year and expects to have an $800,000 overage by spring 2011.

didnt they lose their accreditation a couple of years ago? I remember that was in the news...needless to say, past alumni and students were not happy and that's an understatement of course

Should have never moved to Dallas. That killed them.

How did that kill the college? Maybe bad leadership is what brought the College down.

^ This logic makes no sense, because the college is still alive.

BTW, Paul Quinn was recognized as HBCU of the Year for 2010.

The mistake was made due to the fact they moved into that location before any remodeling was done. They should have waited a year or two, had the remodeling work done and then moved to Dallas. That campus had been vacant for years and they moved in way to soon. They put the cart before the horse.

Seemed more healthy while they were in Waco. Don't know how in the hell they were able to win that inaugural award...especially when they didn't have accreditation.

I don’t understand why you are so negative about it. Is it because it’s in Dallas? Anyway Paul Quinn will rise again and become the best HBCU in the state. Many companies and affluent blacks from across the nation have invested a tremendous amount of money to get the school back on track. I personally understand how vital this college is for the DFW black community and it is worth saving.

How am I being negative? I just asked a question, can you answer it? And no, Paul Quinn has a while before it can touch Prairie View and TSU, and that's if those schools remain stagnant in their growth. Their endowment, enrollment, types of degrees, etc., blow Paul Quinn away. You can stop with that. Acting like affluent Blacks don't contribute to PV and TSU. What have the enrollment numbers been like?

There it is, the required Scarface reference of something in Houston.

Noone but you has made comparisons of Paul Quinn to Texas Southern or Prairie View. Obviously, PQ has a long ways to go, but the school seems to be moving in the right direction. The title of the OP's thread mentions PQ 'making a comeback'. You just cannot seem to stomach almost anything in Dallas receiving positive press, IMHO.

FWIW; just four years ago, TSU was also on the verge of losing it's acceditation, due to poor leadership and financial problems.
