Question in title. If I were to move to The Village apts, I would have to make this trek every day. What is the best route? My co workers tell me 75 is absolutely awful, and to avoid it. I was thinking NWHWY to Preston, but they said NWHWY is awful as well.

What say you, Dallasites?

NW Hwy is too terrible even in heavy traffic times - it flows nicely. Quickest route would be to get over to the tollway south to where it ends (Harry Hines) and turn left at the light at Wolf. Bam...you are there.

Or take Skillman down, it turns into Live Oak. Turn right when you get to Good Latimer (Dart Rail tracks are there). Continue this as it turns into Routh, Maple-Routh Connection and then Maple once it crosses McKinney, a few more blocks...and you are there...

You could also go down Greenville (or southbound Central Service Road) to Monticello, cut over to Cole/Carlisle and follow it down to Maple.

I want to avoid taking the tollway. I take it now and it does clear up after mockingbird, but I just don't like paying to go to work I'll check out the greenville route.

It's not really a "trek" as far as Dallas goes! Northwest Highway's a breeze but Preston isn't because most of the your drive down Preston is through the Park Cities (where cops will bust you for going 30.5mph in a 30mph zone....and it's all 30mph!) and includes 2 or 3 school zones (20mph).

It would be easier to hop on southbound 75 and exit Lemmon/Blackburn/Hall and take the service road to Maple-Routh connection, then Maple to Wolf. You could also take Northwest Highway to southbound Tollroad (which is usually pretty clear between Northwest Highway and your exit which would be Harry Hines). Both would take about 15-20 minutes from the Village.

75 traffic south is not that bad and you will only be going a couple exits. Just get off at Fitzhugh, west to Turtle Creek and then south to Maple. It's going to be your fastest way when it's all said and done. Getting to the Tollway will take you longer than getting to Fitz. Skillman and Greenville are full of lights and take you well out of your way. I've tried every way imaginable to get to downtown and uptown from the Village.

I left work at 5:30 and took McKinney to Monticello to Greenville to carouth haven and it took right at 20 min. I think if I do take 75, I don't think It will be much different and I won't have to deal with stop lights (I prefer stop and go traffic to stop lights/signs). Right now I drive from Addison, down DNT to my work place. In the afternoons I take Oak Lawn to I35 to 635 to Marsh to Timberglen. Overall it takes 30ish mins in the morning, 40ish in the afternoons after work. I don't take the tollway after work because there's a 5 min difference and I can't afford paying 4 bucks for 5 mins worth of time. In the mornings I take it cause it saves me 20ish mins for whatever reason.

Anyway, I took a loopdy loop around the area and I like it. I'll be takin' the woman down there one day to check it out a little closer.

The good thing is that you can go several different ways...

Yeah, right now I either have the 635/I35 route or the tollway. Looks like if I see an accident I can pretty much go an infinite number of ways.
