Father is looking at a job in Dallas, just wondering what you guys can tell me about the place. We would be looking to spend $300k on a house. Just browsing realtor with a 20 mile radius from Dallas the houses are all amazing, so i'm wondering, what neighborhoods/towns would you guys recommend? Both of my parents are in their 40's and i'm 19.

Just looking at Dallas on google maps i'm sure there isn't a shortage of things to do. Dad and I are huge gear heads, I know texas is crazy with cars. Just worried about places are considered "crime areas" and such.

-Cheers

For that amount of money you can get a nice house in or around any part of the metro.
That is why people always indicate to get the job first and then find a place to reside.
You should rent first so you can get a real feel of the different areas of the metro.
The commute can be a killer especially due to construction, traffic, or weather. You will save yourself some frustration if you can find a place to live within a 20 mile radius of your work.
There are many recreational listings throughout the metro as well.

$300,000 will get you a very nice home in the Dallas area.

Most of the new growth has been northern Dallas county,
Collin county, Denton county and Rockwall county.

20 miles from Dallas can mean an hour or longer commute. It's important to know exactly where his office will be before making neihbodhood/ suburb recomendations as traffic can be quite awful here.

TC is correct, we really can't provide great advice until you know where your Dad will be working, as $300k can buy a nice house in most areas of the metroplex.

As far as being a "gearhead" goes, then you may want to consider living in one of the north east suburbs so you can have an easy time of making it out to Texas Motor Speedway. There are also a lot of car clubs for a lot of different makes and models around here, in Dallas you can find some of the most exotic cars in the world.

If you are a gear head, then look around TMS.

Roanoke, Southlake, and Flower Mound.
