I've seen a few listings for 3-bd houses for around $70-80K. They are obviously in need of renovation, but this doesn't necessarily scare my husband and me off.

But, do you think this is a good idea? We really like the laid-back, friendly vibe of the area and this is probably the only way it'll be possible for us.

Moderator cut: just realtor.com please

What do you guys think?

No, it's not listed on Realtors. I already looked.

There are a couple that I know of in that price range that might listed or listed soon. Both of these houses will need a entire gut job; not sure of the foundation. But the houses were poorly maintained. One on Junius and one on Skillman. I don't see either of them listed right now, though.
What streets are these houses on?

One is at Worth and Glasgow (I think it's a foreclosure) and the other is near Junius and Dumas (this is a wholesale property and sale is pending).

The listing you posted said this:
Quote:
Historical home located in the Junius Heights area awaiting the right investor to restore its charm. This house is located in a part of Dallas where product does return value! I do believe this one may need to go back down to the framing in order to install HVAC, new insulation, and remove board and plaster walls, but when you are done you will have a show home!
That means cha-ching-cha-ching. The house may be livable now, but you would be looking at a SIGNIFICANT investment to get it up to code. The picture also looks like it is next door to an apartment building (to the right - based on the windows). It might be a steal, but it might also be that you get what you pay for.

Good luck.

The house on Worth at Glasgow has been worked on 2-3 times in the last few years. I think by people buying it; doing a poor reno and trying to flip it....if it the house on the north quadrant.

Keep in mind the restrictions on replacing items on a house in a historic district - such as wood frame windows only...very pricey!! Make sure you understand what type of renovations you can/can't do before buying.

Keep n mind that if the house truly needs to go back to the framing (like mentioned in the ad) it will probably not be livable during the reno. So you will have to have alternate plans of where to reside while all the work is getting done. Just another thing to think about.
