I have been renting for years and have never had a landlord return a security deposit with interest.

You should feel lucky if your principal is returned, considering cleaning charges after vacating the apartment...forget the interest.

Never. I usually got about 75% of my money returned. They always found some charges.

Thanks for your replies. But it looks like we are discussing about getting the security deposit back, my concern was about getting interest on the security deposit.
So when you guys talk about the apartment office not returning the security deposit, when they deduct the charges they do the security deposit adjustments, so do they do only the original security deposit adjustment or do they add interest as well when doing the adjustment?
Eg. If the deposit was $100 when they do adjustment do they do like $100.13 or only $100?

You do not get any interest nor do they pay any interest on your deposit or money paid.

I will be the 7th poster to tell you, NO. You do not earn interest on your security deposit. In NYC, you do. In Texas, you don't. If the deposit is $100 and you get it all back, you get a check for $100.
