We have been searching and searching for the right place to settle. We are looking for a country feeling if at all possible (HAHAHAH! I am starting to think it may not be possible). Have ruled out most of the northern suburbs bc of crowding and tiny lots. We are looking for an acre or more in the 600K range. We were happy with Rockwall/Heath/Eastern areas about two years ago, but now it seems to be getting super crowded and suburbanized there too. A few people have suggested Mansfield or Midlothian areas. I haven't visited either yet (will do so in March) but just curious what the general thoughts are on these areas? Any info would be helpful. It is country? Is it strip malls and crowded developments? the schools look "hit or miss" depending on where you are. How is the commute into downtown Dallas from both places? What is the main difference between Mansfield and Midlothian? Thanks. I'm starting from scratch on these two places so any info or impressions at all are helpful!

Both of these are former rural towns that are quickly turning into suburbia with strip malls and parking lots. If you don't want to be surrounded by subdivisions within 5 years, don't move here!

These will be a long commute to downtown Dallas. Midlothian is in Ellis County, and Mansfield is in the southwest corner of Tarrant County with Joe Pool Lake in between it and downtown Dallas!

Forget it. This is exactly what I'm trying to avoid! Thanks for the input!

Midlothian is not too bad a drive to downtown. I don't believe you will find any place driving distance to downtown that isn't getting a lot of development. Maybe Sunnyvale would be of interest to you.

Sunnyvale is pure suburbia now.

Maybe Waxahachie

Are you going to be commuting daily to Downtown Dallas? If not, then try somewhere like Decatur or Cleburne.

Sunnyvale or Forney could be a good idea if commuting to downtown if you want a more rural feel even though Forney will soon be like Rockwall or you could look south towards Red Oak or Ovilla.

Midlothian is still far more rural than many Dallas suburbs, definitely more so than the majority of Mansfield. I'd definitely look at the Ovilla/Oak Leaf area of too, especially for an acre+ of land. I know Ovilla is zoned Midlothian ISD but I'm not sure about Oak Leaf. It might be Red Oak. I'd prefer Midlothian schools over Waxahachie or Mansfield, not as familiar with RO schools.

Also, if you're commuting to Dallas, Midlothian is a much better option than Mansfield. Taking 360 south of 20 is incredibly slow, so I usually opted for driving 287 through Midlothian to get to Dallas.
