Sure enough the Texas law requires tow plates (front / back), but i've recently noticed a large amount of vehicles without the front plate. At first I though it was all of the out of state drivers or just certain vehicles, but it mostly Texas plates on both newer and older vehicles. Has anyone ever received a ticket or been questioned about just having one plate?

Texas law requires vehicles to display both a front and rear license plate.

No exceptions.

There is no state requirement, however, to display either a front or rear "Incense" plate (see thread title for clarification.)

Front license plates, yes. Front INCENSE plates...left to the option of the vehicle owner.

What is an "Incense" plate, anyway?

Technically the police can ticket you for it. I ask a officer I recently sold a home to. Its just if the officer feels like pulling you over for it. I did one plate for a long time and never got pulled over but decided not to risk it.

You might not need a front license plate in Texas if you're tooling around town on a farm trailer.

Otherwise, you probably need one.

"Incense" HA, I just selected the first auto correct for icense without checking what it was.
Alright, Is there an age limit on the matter. A friend of mine had bought a 1984 RX-7 that came without a front plate.

If you drive around in a big city, I doubt the cops will ever bother you since there are so many out of state drivers with no front plates. But you'll most likely get pulled over in a small town.

It's basically something that a cop can use as an excuse to pull you over if they want to, but it's rarely something that a cop will pull you over for on its own.

I don't have one and have never had one on the cars I've owned as an adult. It's vain but they don't look good on German cars

If I ever do get a ticket, I'll probably get a second fine for not having one but I've never, ever been pulled over - even in HP/UP- for not having a front plate.

I don't have/want a front plate on my car either. If I were ever to receive a ticket I would pay it and not complain because I know that I should have one and that I choose not to.

At least carry the second plate with you to prove that someone else is not using it on a different vehicle.
