Hello! My wife and I are relocating to Dallas in the fall after our baby is born. I work for Southwest Airlines and will be based at Love Field, while my wife's a nurse.

We're looking for an affordable place to live (our price range for houses is 100k to 125k). We'd like a family friendly, safe neighborhood. I don't mind a commute of up to about 45 to 50 minutes, but would like to live near hospitals so wife's commute isn't that bad.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and God bless

I would suggest a 3-6 month stay in an apartment while your wife looks for a job. There are unbelievable numbers on hospitals in the DFW area. The Villages at Greenville/Lovers is a good place to start - quite a few hospitals and you're about 15 minutes from Love Field.

$100,000-$125,000 could be challenging depending on your sq ft. requirements. Fortunately, as Ih_newbie said there are tons of hospitals so you should have several options that would put you within a 40-50 minute commute. You might check the 75218 zip code, I think it includes parts of Lake Highlands and Garland. You might be able to find something in your price range there.

Be really careful in that zip code. I used to live there, and one of the reasons we moved out was crime. Our cars got broken into in the driveway, and we occasionally heard gunshots! The main neighborhood where you'll find something in that price range is Lochwood, and even then, it will probably be a little frame house with no insulation (like the one my sister lived in), or a fixer-upper.

I agree that an apartment or rental house is probably your best bet. Yeah it stinks that you won't be able to build equity, but you'll also be able to afford more, and you won't have tpo put money aside for repairs and taxes.

Location of job would help narrow your search a bit. You could find a newer house in the newer part of Mesquite (far northeast corner) in your price range. In the city it would be in a older neighborhood. It really depends on what part of town you would be working in.

He said he was going to be at Love Field while his wife's a nurse.

I agree w/lhnewbie, getting an apt. at the Villages for the first few months while looking around for a place.

Is the village good with a baby. My perception of the Village is that it is mainly college students from SMU, bartenders, and servers. It may not be like that anymore though.

While it is mainly single people who live in the area, there are quite a few people with kids.
