I don't know that Verizon does anything in the DeSoto area. Far as I know they operate only in those small cities north of Dallas and Fort Worth and in between. Of course, it's all DFW metro now. Vz's field tech training for FiOS is in Lewisville, just north of Dallas.

What the hub might do is research all the Telco's in the DeSoto area and see if they have opportunities there for him. Also, check with AT&T (formerly SWB, Southwestern Bell). ATT is installing U-Verse, their version of fiber phone/internet/TV, so there could be opportunities there.

And yeah, it got down in the 30's last nite and I'm tired of the cold weather, too ! ! !

Sorry to respond so late!! Thanks for the information. We visited Arlington, Ft. Worth, Irving, Dallas and Desoto over the weekend. Met some fios techs that said the work was a breeze compared to what my husband does. One of them was from Florida and had transferred a couple of yrs ago. Anyway, they gave us a number for someone in human resources who said they really weren't hiring right now but to keep checking. Not sure where she was located. We are not giving up! I really want to move after looking at the size of the houses we looked at and of course the cost was wonderful!! Less than half of what we are paying now. But,,,your property tax is high.

Your 30 degrees surely wasn't as cold as ours here in Maryland. I loved the weather and REALLY want to move now. LOL

Jenelly, DeSoto is okay and does not have a crime problem. I lived there for 16 years and it is a safe community. It is a well-run community and a nice place to raise a family. The "stay north of the Trinity" comment and trying to lump a middle and upper-middle class suburb like DeSoto with one of the poorest neighborhoods in Dallas is just fear-mongering based on ignorance.

The crime rate in DeSoto is lower than Irving's and MUCH lower than Northwest Dallas'.

think ATT is hiring -- big push to get U-Verse in and ATT has larger area than Verizon from what I understand

it's not fearmongering or ignorance, it's living down there for 20 years of my life. desoto is undergoing a temporary boom, but it won't be long before the middle class is pushed even farther out by crime, just like they did to duncanville, just like they are doing to cedar hill.

Who are the people you are referring to as "they"? If that isn't a perfect example of fear mongering, I don't know what is. When an inquiry is posted by someone who is interested in moving to the southern suburbs, you use code words like "it is becoming another Oak Cliff" or derogatory comments such as "ghetto trash" to describe people who choose to move here. Another example of fear mongering.

What is even more hypocritical is that you will then try to steer a poster to northern suburbs, particularly Plano and Richardson, with crime rates that are nearly identical to those in the southern suburbs. According to City-Data's crime index, DeSoto had a lower crime rate than Plano in 2006. Cedar Hill's crime rate in 2007 was lower than Richardson's and virtually the same as Plano's. The suburb with the both the highest per capita rate of violent and property crime rates in Dallas County during 2007 was Addison, not a southern suburb. Which city has had two murders the past three days and four since the beginning of the year? The answer is Plano. Again, not a southern suburb. Does that mean that it is becoming a "ghetto" or going "downhill"? Absolutely not! What it does show is that no place is free from the scourge of crime.

The middle class is not being "pushed out" of DeSoto, Cedar Hill, or Lancaster. In fact, statistics from the Census Bureau show that overall median incomes, educational attainment levels, and the percentage of residents classified as "wealthy" have all risen. The only community where there have been declines in some of those categories is Duncanville. The demographics have changed, but the majority of people moving here have incomes higher than those who have chosen to pack up and leave. With the possible exception of super-wealthy suburbs, the demographic makeup of communities in the DFW will continue to change.

You never see the few posters on this forum that live the southern suburbs ever bashing and stereotyping the northern suburbs or other large portions of DFW the way you and a few others do on a regular basis. I still live in this area and have for over twenty years. If the area was as bad as you make it out to be, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Lancaster wouldn't be among the fastest growing inner-ring suburbs in the Metroplex.

Default Verizon transfers

My husband and I are also looking to get out of here. He is currently a field tech with verizon for 17yrs. (fios,I&R), we are looking to move from NY to Maryland preferably. Anywhere south would be better than here. I have researched the website and can find no postings, please let me know if you have any suggestions.
