Great Pepper131, just go ahead and make me jealous of you! Of course if I had tons of Art Deco items I would have to get a house to match them. Ah, the delimmas of appreciating history.

Pepper we were probably in line together for the estate sale! That was fun I must say...

D.A. you may be interested in this although the regulars here will roll their eyes at me:

The model for the "Spirit of the Centennial" statue was Georgia Carroll from my high school,
Woodrow Wilson. She graduated in 1937 with one of my best friend's dad. She later married
Big-Band leader Kay Kyser and appeared in several Hollywood films. I believe she still lives in NC.
Our school now has dances in that building, so how cool is that to know this when they enter?

Great, now two Dallasites to be jealous of with the estate sale!

That would be way cool, and a compliment, to have a statue molded after yourself! I wonder if she was able to tell any of her kids or grandkids that that she modeled for it? I would have requested that it become my headstone when I passed, similar to what old affluent cemetery residents request. Since she is still alive, the statue may turn up missing one day? Maybe a morose thought, but Art Deco had no boundaries and we have such decadence displayed at a few cemeteries here in Denver, Fairmount and Riverside.

I can't think of the name of the two cemeteries I was in up there last year, they are in the Uptown area, but I was expecting to see some of those with excessive amounts of money, and probably little religion, show off fancy tombs or headstones. I guess it was better to have a religious burial then not!

I love history for their is much to be learned from it, not just to apprecitate but also so we don't repeat the negative aspects. So thank you Lakewooder for the links!

One of the most famous such statues is in a Paris, Texas cemetery where I have at least a dozen relatives to visit:

Jesus is wearing Cowboy boots..

Excellent! This is what I am talking about! So Paris, TX is where the cool cemetery is located?

Here is an Art Deco one in Denver:

I like the Rodan thinker:

This guy had this shipped in for 1/2 a million in 1911 from Italy.

However, how many headstone have an Elvis on them?
