The answer is that the Dallas/Ft Worth area has about 6 heat-related deaths annually. Chicago has 64 times more heat-related deaths than DFW.

I wonder how many cold-related deaths Chicago and DFW has?

98 is the high for Thursday here and probably a lot of their heat related deaths are due to elderly and those with pre-existing med. conditions with no ac. We get those heat related deaths here too, so i'm really not sure where you're going with this...other than, being on the defensive, that someone said something you thought was a direct insult, to you and your fair city.

You and me both. We keep ours at 77 and it's plenty comfortable. I had a hard time with the heat when I first moved here in 89, but after the first 10 years it rarely bothers me and I work outside a lot. I'm in pretty decent shape and don't wear much outdoors other than shorts in the summer.

Of course, if there were no AC, I'd be living much further North.

Or San Diego, ah San Diego.

With all due respect this 'early' (pre-summer) heat wave will affect a lot of the nation. It's not just Dallas that's getting this heat wave.

"Temperatures will top 90 degrees from Burlington, Vt., southward to Boston, Hartford and New York City. From near the Mason-Dixon Line on south Thursday, the 100-degree mark could be challenged on I-95 city thermometers from Philadelphia and Wilmington, Del., to Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Richmond.

This heat wave has already been responsible for sending triple-digit heat into the nation's northern tier. Temperatures in Minneapolis topped the century mark Tuesday, shattering record high of 95 degrees from 2004. Although not the first heat wave of the season for the southern mid-Atlantic, it will probably bring the hottest weather so far this year for much of the East.

The hottest it has been in Boston so far was 87 degrees; New York City reached 90 degrees and Washington, D.C. climbed to 98 degrees. All three cities and many others could eclipse this mark during the upcoming two days."

Ahh...so Lubbock is the culprit emanating this nastiness (according to the map). Not surprised...not much good comes out of there.

I kid, I kid

Hehehe, nothing good that I'm aware of since Natalie Maines (from the Dixie Chicks)...and of course, Buddy Holly.

I always remember the guy who said, "Dallas is hot, but hell's hotter!", when I was a kid. Kept my faith strong, as I would never want to spend eternity, in either.
