It has been many years since I've made this drive, but would appreciate any advice , any interesting places to stop and picnic or eat, any historic sites we should visit if anyone has made this trip. Thanks!

So stop in New Orleans, see the Chalmette Battlefield (War of 1812 with original house), see Baton Rouge, stop at a casino on the Miss. coast.

There was a great road trip article written by Lisa Kresl in the Dallas Morning News a couple of years ago. I printed it and saved it. But hopefully you can do a search for it and find it.

There's a great restaurant in Chalmette:

Beauvoir in Biloxi--Jefferson Davis' home and presidential library. It's simply phenomenal. I haven't been back since Katrina tore it up, but it's apparently all renovated and just like new.

Bourbon Street and the French Quarter are hard to miss as well, though it may be faster to bypass NOLA and drive through central LA and MS before joining I-10.
