Hi There,

yep great question. My thoughts are with all the people moving south. You are rapidly going to see a change and all the more reason we need to engage people to know their politics and be informed. Just like Wyoming and Montana, all the Californians and liberals with money come out there and first thing they do is want change. They want star bucks on every cornor and complain about the wild life bothering their dogs and cats. It is natural for people to take their beliefs that worked great in a liberal state such as California, Oregon and Washington and bring them to the South. California is bankrupt and there is no businesses in Oregon only retirees. The libs forced out all the business because of their left wing agendas. So be on alert and please dont let them change TEXAS. My son just moved there and everyday we thank our lucky stars. He is the first one to get out of this welfare state called California. He picked Texas because of your political climate mostly being red and read your current laws and he fits right in with your current believe system and believes in our constitional rights. Thank GOD they are protected in TEXAS. But like I said be wary it will change if you let them. They came to Dallas or Houston because of jobs, well you all have jobs because your state doesnt let all the liberals put into effect all their taxes and drive business out. Dont let your state become another California. My son is 27 and believes in fiscal responsibility and our GOD GIVEN RIGHTS.

DI

Great post DI!

Californians will NEVER & I repeat NEVER change Texas into a Democratic state, however they might try to change Austin, simply because it has a history of being slightly Liberal (by Texas standards anyways)

Dallas & Houston are too pro big business to allow such a change. If the Dems ever got control of the big oil companies here in Texas we would've been a broke state (like California is now) a long time ago. So much for being a "progressive" state, huh?

Absolutely nothing as long as they don't come here trying to make their own rules or force their culture & beliefs on me.

Thats why you live in Tyler. People from other countries wont be able to touch you there.

This, to me, sums up the sterotypical Texas mentality.

I for one love to see and meet people from other countries because I think I can learn things from them. Texans are some of the most culturally defensive people Ive ever encountered. My theory is that its not because they dont want to learn about other cultures, but rather because they are afraid of change to the point where they shun everything else. This isnt really present in Houston, DFW, Austin, and San Antonio because there are so many people from other states and in the case of Houston and DFW, so many people from other countries as well. El Paso is in its own world, so I cant include them in this either.

I want to learn from Texan culture, but all Ive learned so far is that the more non-Texan you are, the more wrong you are.

I dont expect to change Texas, but dont think for one moment that I will conform to what you guys think is right just because I live here now.

Well I'm not sure what I am (North or South) I was born in Indiana but lived most of my childhood between Texas, Louisiana and Florida. Now I reside in Alaska because the Military sent me here. My wife is from Oklahoma but lived in North Dakota and now Ak because of the Military. So I ask you, what am I considered to be? I love the South, I have Southern beliefs, hell I'm even a Republican. So when I move to Texas will I be just another Yank destroying your State or will I finally be home?

Whats wrong with Tyler? Its one of, if not the most beautiful small metro areas (now over 200,000) in all of Texas. Tyler is also THE medical hub of East Texas which attracts doctors & nurses from all over Asia & Africa. We also have a sizable Filipino community here due to the need for nurses at any of our 3 main hospitals; Mother Frances, ETMC, & UT Health Center. The new head of the BBB East Texas chapter is a Filipina from Chicago. We even have a small Asian market. To say Tyler has no culture at all is way off.

Oh & for the record, I've lived in both Dallas (1 year) & Houston (5 years). You can usually find me in either city at random on any given weekend, or out in LA/Long Beach soaking up that California sun and culture. All I have to do is hop on an American Eagle or Continental flight at Tyler's brand new regional airport & jet set away if I want to experience "real" culture...heck, I might even drive 120 miles west to Ft. Worth.

Thanks for caring!

Dont really care about the Mason-Dixon Line, anyone from north of the Red River is a yankee

Your reasoning is wrong, we love to learn about other cultures if for nothing else then to reasure us about our beliefs. We aren't affraid of change by anymeans. We live by the philosophy that "if it ain't broke don't fix it". You think we need change?? If what we have been doing all this time is so bad that we need to change then why is it that is doing better then the majority of the rest of the country? Do you just want us to change to your way of thinking just so that we can fail too? Cause that just doesn't make anysense to me. Texas is a large reason this country is still afloat and IMHO I think that if (and I mean if, not saying it should/could) but if Texas was to leave the US then the US would pretty much if not completely collapse.

Default California is broke...and Texas isn't?

I just want to remind everyone we're looking a terrible budget crisis in this state. Per resident, our budget deficit for the next two years is on par with liberal states like Illinois and California. Even being so pro-business, Texas still has run up one of the largest deficits per resident in the country.
