Problem is, IMAX (the company) is finding that theaters don't want to build true IMAX anyone because they aren't getting their costs back in ticket sales, and thus have moved on to "LIE-MAX," something you see mainly at AMC theaters that claims to "IMAX," charges extra, but definitely isn't IMAX. Hell it's not even Cinemark XD and that has an extra fee too. LIE-MAX is more on par with the digitial projection screens/audio in the non-XD screens at the Cinemark Plano that is next to Cinemark HQ, and there you have no upcharge for that.
Cinemark charges an arm and a leg for IMAX tickets at Cinemark 17--it's $14 just for tickets to IMAX 3-D films.

MAYBE I'll go once just to have the experience (and because hubby is such a movie buff he'll probably beg me too), but after the one time...I just don't think I could justify the cost.

Movie Tavern is the same idea but you pay for food and beverages separately.

This theater is in Fairview, TX. Stacy Road is the boundary line between the city of Allen and the town of Fairview. Notice the name of the two centers that have just gone up on the east side of 75 at Stacy Road. The big box center south of Stacy is called "The Villages at Allen," the open air mall center (where this theater will be) is on the north side of Stacy in the town of Fairview and is called, appropriately, "The Villages at Fairview."

Get a good mapsco or another metro area map, Fairview is indeed an incorporated town between Allen and McKinney. Its western boundary is 75, Allen's city limits go all the way up to 121 west of 75, but not on the eastern side. That's why the outlet mall on the north side of Stacy west of 75 is called Allen Outlets.

Sorry to be so anal about this, but I am a map nerd and the little town of Fairview needs its due recognition.

There is a surcharge for every IMAX presentation in the country, FYI. In the SF Bay Area, for example, IMAX 3-D films run about $17-18, depending on the specific theater. It's $18 in NYC.

Shame on google, that Fairview isn't even incorporated. Here is a link from Yahoo maps that is much more exact, even shows the city limits in color.

Unfortunately the official opening is not until May 7.

Dinner and a Movie - Gold Class Cinemas

The one in Austin will open before that, in April. I guess technically with the delay now, the Fairview location will be the sixth in the nation.

Tip: When other locations opened, a few weeks prior to opening the theater held "Dress rehearsals," free tix to people to go check it out but more importantly, give the staff a full trial run and make sure everything is "gold class" when it opens for real.

What e-mail about the grand opening? Now I'm extremely jealous, and I even signed up to be their club member months ago!
