Weird you say that. One of our good friends lives there!

Ok gotcha. I think you will easily find something in Uptown you like.

Uptown and Downtown are divided by Woodall Rogers (the highway connecting 75 to 35). A place in the West End is maybe a mile from apartments in State Thomas part of Uptown. They're like 3 stoplights apart. You need to come drive around. Downtown Dallas is very small when compared to other major cities in the US and you can cut through or around it quickly to get on 30.

Addison is a different story- it is about 10 miles north of Downtown Dallas. Easy commutefor you (15 min max), but your girlfriend would suffer through the downtown commute on the Tollroad (20-30 min) before starting her 30-40 min drive to FW on 30.

Lakewood is further east off 30. It would be a fairly straight shot for your girlfriend, but a nightmare commute for you (50-60 minutes). I lived over there for a brief time. Love the area but there is no easy east-west route to get you to the Tollroad. It's all surface streets, not highways.

Andy, when living in OakLawn and working on the backside (near city hall) of downtown I could make the drive in fewer minutes than I could time on my watch for my 8 a.m. job. Just one or two minutes more and I could have been sailing off to I-30. Though I would have stayed on OakLawn Ave to Industrial then south to I-30 just to miss the highway interchanges. The big post office is down there, too.

There's a north bound toll road access a few block north of Lemmon, in Highland Park. Yes, they'll let you drive thru there.

Just go find your best rental deal, south of Highland Park, east of the toll road... south in to downtown. The rest will fall into place.

I have driven from deep Lakewood to the tollway via Northwest Highway (cut through The Village from Skillman or Abrams) to Spring Valley and it takes 20-30 minutes from around 7:30 am to 9 am. Sign on my exit usually says, "7 minutes to PGBT". However, it would also add to your GF's commute by 10-15 minutes.

You can easily get on the tollway from WillysB and TC's suggestions but you might also try the Design District on the west side of I-35 across from Victory and the AAC. You could meet at the really cool Hotel Belmont for drinks!

My commute isn't too much of a worry... as for now it's an hour and 10 minutes with consistent traffic... so regardless it will improve.

I'm just tryin to find the best area for my gf's commute to Fort Worth. She's the one making most of the sacrifice here. So Lakewood and Addison Circle are ruled out...

Uptown and Downtown are still in the running

We plan on making the drive and driving around downtown and the surrounding areas and spending all day researching maybe even an entire weekend.

So other than uptown and downtown... any other suggestions? (keeping the commute to ft worth in mind)

Also, much thanks for the great advice and quick responses. This is a great forum. I know I can come off as asking too many questions haha. I just wanna gather as much information as possible, so I can at least have a starting point when I go do the actual research in Dallas

You might check out the Vista Apts. on N. Houston St. in Victory Park. (between House of Blues and the W Hotel). They were built in 2006 and located directly west of the Jefferson North End. It's easy access to I-30 if you take Lamar St. west to Industrial Blvd. and then to the I-30 entrance.

Check out Gables Republic or the Element at Mercantile Place on Main. They are both luxury apartments right downtown that may be better deals than in Uptown. There might be some good deals there now. 1900 McKinney and Glass House in Uptown might have a similar product but be better located for access to the tollway. Seventeen17 McKinney and The Arts by JPI are others that are both opening in the next 2 months.
