Don Meredith (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Don_Meredith - broken link), the Dallas Cowboys (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Dallas_Cowboys - broken link) and SMU (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Southern_Methodist_University - broken link) quarterback and Monday Night Football (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Football - broken link) icon, died Sunday evening in Santa Fe, N.M. He was 72.
Meredith died at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, a hospital spokesman confirmed this morning. The Meredith family's attorney, Lisa Fine Moses, said his wife, Susan, and daughter Mary were at his side.
Meredith had battled emphysema in recent years and suffered a minor stroke in 2004.

Too sad. The local ABC station (WFAA channel 8) had an interview with Walt Garrison just last night. He had a couple of funny stories about Don. He will be sorely missed by his old fans in Texas. I remember going many times to the Cotton Bowl to watch him play.

He always seemed like someone who tried to enjoy life whatever the dish set before him...
always enjoyed him on the old Monday Night Football ...
Jerry Jones is not good enough to carry Don's pads in from the field--he should just shut up his "tribute" IMO,.
