I'm a 22 yr old recent college grad moving from Chicago to Dallas in June. I'm pretty excited, but I've never been nor do I know anyone in Dallas. I've done some research, and I'm looking to move to "the heart of the city" and "where the action is". I've heard uptown/downtown Dallas is the place to be? Any apartment suggestions? Lifestyle suggestions? Tips/Things to be aware of? Thanks!

Forget Addison. If you're 22 and just out of college, you want to be in Uptown. Drive up & down McKinney Ave from Pearl to Fitzhugh & just pick a place. Post & Gables own most of the big apartment complexes. Expect to pay about $1,000/mo to live alone in a newer buidling. Along Cole, Travis, and McKinney between Blackburn & Fitzhugh, you can find cheaper apartments in older buildings, closer to $700-800/mo, but the residents will be more mixed and not just young people.

Pick a place with a good pool & you'll make tons of friends!

Hey turtle, while you're here...

What do you know/think of Trianon by Windsor in Uptown right on McKinney? I posted a large thread about it like 4 posts down... We got kind of hosed but the rates are pretty phenomenal... $1380-$1480 for a 2 bedroom 1300 sq foot VERY NICE looking. Walking distance (we walked to McKinney and it took less than 5 minutes., also walking distance to victory park and american airlines etc)

I don't know anyone who lives there or at any of the apartments west of Cedar Springs, but agree- looks like a good rate. Did you ask what their occupancy rate is? Wonder if it's a little less expensive because they were built more recently and they are still filling up the building? Nevertheless, I would go back and see if they will match the online rate.

I do have friends who live at the Manchester/ State Thomas. They are very nice. I like that neighborhood a little more (personally) because it is a little busier all the time (Londoner, TABC, State & Allen Lounge, and just a 2 block walk to McKinney). It feels a little more "neighborhoody" to me, whereas AAC/ "Harwood" area (Perot Jr would be so proud I just used his made-up neighborhood name!) is busy with event & game traffic, but not much else.....even though you are still really close to McKinney.

Yeah we looked at McKinney townhomes/brownstones. Very nice, but the rates were more $$$ for less sq footage and less bedrooms. 1 bedroom for 1050 sq feet-ish was $1550/month... but having the garage is NIIIICE and it has that homey feeling yeah.

We REALLY enjoy having 2 bedrooms now, and the whole 1 bedroom thing wa just kind of a bummer and paying a lot more for a lot less space. This Trianon complex really is a few minutes to walk it's not bad at all and you get the ""best of both worlds" as you are equally close to the victory park area (AAC area).

Perhaps we may negotiate with Manchester State Thomas brownstones and use Trianon's rates and size as leverage. The reason Trianon is that rate, I don't know.. it's only ONE unit the guy is moving out May 13 and that's the rate. The other ones of similar size are all $1600+ (according to the website right now) So, it is a very special rate. We feel hosed and will try re-negotiating I hope things work out because that would be PHENOMENAL...

If not, we will be looking back at Manchester

Re: Trianon - McKinnon? One way heading north? There is a ton of traffic on that road at evening rush as it's the entrance to the Dallas North Tollway for folks working downtown. I think I have spent a lot of time looking at those apartments while doing my daily commute. They are very nice looking, but they seem a bit off the beaten track - just a bit not a lot. (If it's the ones I am thinking of.) You may miss all of the traffic since y'all will be doing your commutes at the same time.

I don't think we're forced to ONLY use McKinnon...? (link above will take you to what it looks like on the map)
