Wow. I've missed out on so much here in the past few days.
Camper, I cant even imagine not having power in this cold spell. I had no power for two weeks after hurricane Ike in 2008. That was terrible but at least it wasnt cold -- it was yukky hot and muggy but people didnt die from 90 degree heat and 100% humidity.
Flamingo, how miserably cold it was up there in VA. My sister's bunny rabbit escaped into the snow a week ago and was gone for 5 days. They looked everywhere for him and figured he must have gone into the government preserve that backs up to their yard. He came back the night it turned so very cold up there.
Bob, what a sweetheart you were to rescue that dog.
Starr, it's so good to see you again.
Ketabcha, being a pseudo-prepper is interesting. I dont want to get into a debate of religious beliefs but, many years ago, I took a class in the interpretation of the Bible Book of Revelations. The class was taught by a very knowledgeable nun and I still remember some of her interpretations of that book regarding events that would happen before the end of the world:
1.
That people would be afraid to leave their homes because others would kill them for a loaf of bread. I already see that here in my area. In the past week alone, there have been several robberies gone bad where innocent victims have been killed. I dont take Queenie to the park anymore because there have been so many robberies there. (The schoolyard where we go is off the main roads so it's still fairly safe.) And, in a park in a very nice part of town, several joggers were robbed and raped in the past week. There's really no part of Houston that's safe anymore. And I'm sure it's that way in many, if not all, of the larger cities.
2.
That all people would speak the same language. I used to think this referred to the metric system but now I know it's the binary system, the basis for computer language.
3.
That California would fall into the ocean. Of course, the Book of Revelations doesnt mention California by name. And I forget exactly what it said that the nun interpreted as meaning California. But I've come to believe that either a gigantic earthquake or typhoon will someday, maybe in the next couple of hundred years, destroy a large part of the western coast.
4.
That a man dressed in white would be the second coming of Christ. This one is debatable, but Pope Francis has been hailed by many as the closest thing to Christ ever. And he doesnt dress in the fancy garb of previous Popes -- he wears a simple white cassock.
I dont say these things to start a debate. I'm not very religious but I see things happening that remind me so much of what was taught in that class almost 50 years ago. I dont think the world is going to end now or even 100 years from now. But I can see our grandchildrens' grandchildren having cause to worry.
