Judge urges mediation in Binghamton purchase suit

The Blue Rocks have a lawsuit against the owners of the Binghamton, NY team of the Eastern League. At issue is an agreement by the Blue Rocks to purchase the Binghamton Mets and move them to Wilmington, thereby finally achieving their long-standing goal of becoming a member of the Eastern League. (There is also a contingency deal to sell the current Carolina League to the Texas Rangers, who would relocate the A league team to NC.) Binghamton accepted a fee of $100K (basically a deposit) from Blue Rocks ownership, but then turned around and sought out offers from other investors. The point of the lawsuit is to establish a breach of contract by Binghamton by continuing to seek offers after accepting money from the Blue Rocks. A judge has placed a temporary injunction on the B-Mets from negotiating with anyone but Wilmington, and is pushing for mediation. If this deal goes through, the Binghamton Mets will become the Wilmington Blue Rocks in 2016, and the Blue Rocks will finally be an AA team.

It's great that Wilmington could possibly achieve its long-standing goal of joining the Eastern League, but it's going to be a little weird having a Mets team in the Philly area (at least through the length of their contact that runs out after the 2020 season). The relief is that they will not be called the Wilmington Mets!

Can't really get to excited or bothered very much by this; heck, the Blue Rocks are the KC Royals a-ball farm team now, and I didn't hate that when they swept the O's in the playoffs last year.

We've never been Blue Rocks fans. Instead - Delmarva Shorebirds - in Salisbury, MD, a peaceful one hour drive south of us, vs. a busy one hour drive north of us.
