Did you change to gold crowns yet? Any update?

I had 2 crowns replaced in the last month with zirconia and am experiencing the same issues (it's miserable). Two different dentists, an orthodontist, and a root canal specialist are all positive it is not the new crowns. I have a lot of metal/porcelain crowns with no issues. After reading this post it seems the only resolution is remove the crowns and go back to metal/porcelain.

@szeretet are you still symptom free without the zirconia?

Have you tried e.max crowns? I've been told they're as strong as Zirconia but made of lithium disilicate. I wonder if that would be a good alternative. I'm desperate to find an alternative that's strong enough for molars but without metal.

I'm not familiar with this material but am open to it. I'm hoping to remove the crowns (hopefully today). If I get relief, my thought is to go back to metal/porcelain crowns, which I have several of. The challenge is convincing the dentist to remove them. I spend June and July in Mexico. The new crowns were put on right before I left the country. I found a really great dentist here. She has been very patient with me, we have tried everything (replaced another failing crown, replaced a filling, removed my permanent wire retainer, put it back on, a CT scan, met with a root canal specialist). She is reluctant to remove the crowns because she is convinced it can't be the crowns (good for her for being conservative). I don't think there is enough history with the zirconia crowns to rule out a reaction to them. I will keep you posted, once I can get them off...fingers crossed.

Yes, but a different than PFM, which I have not had issues with. Until I remove the zirconia crowns (tomorrow), I won't really know. It is a process of elimination. I didn't have the issue until the same day the crowns were put on, over a month ago.

I also have a PFM crown that's 5 years old and never gave me any issues. As soon as the first zirconia crown was cemented 6 weeks ago, my dry mouth started and it's felt like it's on fire most days. I can't take it anymore. I also have a dentist appointment tomorrow for a filling and will try to convince the dentist to remove these crowns. She's also hesitant because she doesn't believe it's possible. If she still hesitates, I will be forced to try another dentist. It's a real struggle. Please let us know how it goes! I'll keep you all updated if I'm able to get mine replaced as well. This whole process is stressful, tiring, and expensive!

Good luck to the OP

I know the feeling, it's miserable. I convinced the dentist to remove mine tomorrow afternoon. The crown I had replaced while I've been here is also zirconia. I am going to start with removing the first two (since it started with those). If I still feel the symptoms, I will also have the latest one removed. I will keep you posted. Good luck with your appointment tomorrow.

If you only remove 2 crowns you'll probably get some relief but the symptoms won't go away completely until you remove them all. My symptoms began from the very first one 6 weeks ago. 3 weeks later, the other 2 were cemented and it just made all my symptoms 10x worse. I can't even sleep now because of how severely dry my mouth is and all the anxiety this situation has caused.

Good luck to you as well! At least we know we're not crazy.
