I'd like responses from people who have lived in or do live in the west colfax neighborhood. I'm moving to Tennyson street, right by where the new light rail station is going to be. I feel that there are some low income people, but they seem like single moms who are just trying to take care of their families.

I have heard that West Colfax is reducing it's crime rate and becoming a nicer area to live. My question is for people who actually live or have lived in the West Colfax neighborhood. We are moving from Capitol Hill near Cheesman Park right by Colfax.

I saw alot of sketchy people in my old neighborhood, but mostly I felt safe. Should I be more worried moving to West Colfax? If I just keep to myself and don't bother others, will I be less likely to be victimized? Has anyone had any personal experiences living in this area that would require more caution than I previously took in the Cheesman Park area (i.e. not running or walking alone at night) Would you suggest I keep the bark collar off my dog at night so she could scare away potential burglars?

Thanks

If you felt safe in the Cheesman Park area, you should feel safe near Tennyson and Colfax. It is an older neighborhood; well, it's experienced less of a renaissance than Cheesman. The people who live in this area aren't anymore prone to criminal acts than the residents of Cheesman. Were I you, I would be more concerned with the amenities. I think that is where you'll experience the biggest difference.

I would advise you to take normal precautions no matter where you live. Predators target victims not neighborhoods. If you are the slow moving, unaware antelope at the edge of the herd, you've increased your changes of victimization exponentially I don't care what neighborhood the herd is in.

I got a bike robbed out of my car when I was gone from it for 10 minutes. The cops don't set up stings or do anything to stop crime. Cheese park is a LGBT are and your very less likely to get robbed. West colfax is infested with drugs, hookers and cracked heads. They aren't cleaning up the area at all.
