Hi-
I am moving to Denver from Connecticut. I am graduating in a couple weeks and plan on moving out there later this summer. I have only visited Denver once so I need a lot of help figuring out where to live. I am working at a company at 1900 16th street and would like to be able to walk to work if possible although it is right near Union station so that could be an option too?

I am 22 female and since I am transitioning from college life at a big party school I think I will definitely want to be near good bars/clubs/restaurants. I also would enjoy being close to parks/walking trails. Right now I do not own a dog but I am considering getting one after I am settled in. I do not know anyone in Denver so I definitely want to be in a friendly neighborhood with other young people that are starting their professional career.

How expensive should I expect rent to be? What about parking (and is worth bringing a car)?

Also any suggestions on how to meet people that would be in a similar situation?

Thanks so much! and I look forward to living in Denver!!

^Prospect Park sounds right up your alley. It's within walking distance of your work and LoDo as well. One of the apartment complexes, The Metro, has long been considered to be a dorm for the recent graduate and if you want to hear college fight songs as 2AM then that's your place. There are other apartment complexes in the area that are a bit calmer, but all of them will demand premium rents for the location ($1500 and up for a 1-bedroom).

Look at the Manhattan, if your budget allows. My co-worker pays out the butt to live in a tiny studio, but walks to work everyday and really enjoys living there. He's in the most recently finished building and his place is super nice. It's right by the Cherry Creek Trail and is far enough from the bars of LoDo to be peaceful, but close enough to easily walk home when you've had a few beers.

Especially since you mentioned parks and trails, I would live in "Wash Park" if I were you, not downtown. It's a few miles away, so you will have to drive, take the bus, light rail, or bike to downtown. Your best bet for both housing and meeting people would be to live with some roommates in a house, at least until you get your bearings. Parking in that neighborhood is hard to come by, but it would still be worth having a car. It's possible to live in Denver without a car, but not fun.

Disagree on the parking. Unless you live a block from the restaurants/shops, street parking is very easy.

Capitol hill would be an option as well. You can walk down 16th ave and catch the free mall ride to work. It's about a 20-30 minute walk, or a 10 minute bike ride from most parts of Cap Hill. Baker would be fun if LoDo isn't your scene. You could ride the zero bus up and catch the mall ride. Or, with the light rail, you could live anywhere from Lakewood to Golden and still have a car-free way into downtown. It's all about how much living space you want, your budget, and how much you like riding trains Have fun. Welcome to Denver!

When my wife and I were apt hunting, we also looked at the Manhattan. We loved the location, but for the price the amenities kinda sucked. I would have expected granite and stainless in the kitchen, but it was no different then most 800 a month apts just outside the city. Plus the only walkway between buildings is the street so if you live in one building and want to go to the gym, you have to walk across the street to get to it. It was the little things about the place that turned us off.

Hmmm. My friend in the Manhattan has granite, gorgeous cabinets, and stainless kitchen appliances. I know there are several buildings built in different phases; he's in the one finished last summer (which I believe is the newest building). I've seen pictures online of apartments with kitchens that are far lesser, though, and I'm guessing these are the other buildings.
