Since Denvercarmagedon two weeks ago I have driven north bound I25 past Santa Fe 4 times. I don't think it has gotten any better. I still don't know what the plan is for that section of I25, but I don't expect it is going to improve as long as north bound I25 has to go under Alameda. The combination of turn and dip is evidently too much for some vehicles to handle, and the result is accordion traffic slowdown. I think the problem is less severe southbound because the turn radius is less.

CDOT loves bottlenecks! And no, it makes no sense why you suddenly lose a lane and then regain it a quarter mile ahead (or less). Like on the 70 when you're coming from the airport and again where it crosses over the 25. Or the south end of the 225 where it shrinks to two lanes just prior to the merge with 25 (this one causes a HUGE backup every morning for several miles as you have a freeway that goes from 4 lanes downt to 2), then the 25/Santa Fe mess where it goes down to 3 lanes suddenly, for no apparent reason.

This morning, for the first time in several years, I have to travel to the courthouse in Greeley. Driving north on 25 at about 6:50 am, I was shocked by the congestion as far north as 144 street. However, traffic going east into Greeley from 25 also sucked.

So those daily hit and run reports you hear about....one hit close to home.

The young guy that sits right next to me at work was hit on his bike yesterday and the driver took off (driver ran a red light). Two broken legs, one of which needs surgery, and a dislocated elbow.

What is with this area? I've never seen so many hit and run accidents in my life. I mean you literally hear about one almost every day.

I lived in Denver for 9 years. The drivers there are awful. Every time I drove on a Denver freeway, I was used to seeing someone driving under the speed limit, several people driving way over the speed limit, and lots of people tailgating and cutting each other off. One major problem I observed is that many times, a slow driver would get into the fast lane and impede the flow of traffic, forcing everyone to dangerously maneuver around them. Half the time, these clueless drivers still wouldn't move out of the way. It drove me absolutely nuts and no doubt contributes to the Denver area's serious road rage problem.

Here in Chicago, people are more "expressive," i.e. honk their horns constantly and drive aggressively. Denver drivers are still much ruder, IMO.

Don't even get me started on CDOT. I always joked that I don't know what they're all smoking down at the CDOT offices, but I want some.

Might just be a factor of having so many more peds and cyclists on the road. Higher volume, higher number of accidents. I'd be interested to see comparative statistics showing the accident ratios amongst ped and cyclist heavy cities.

Hi all. New to City Forum. I have recently lived in Dallas, Denver, and Albuquerque (and frequent Dallas and Denver for business). Living in ABQ now, and I must say that there is nothing like an easy-going 15-minute commute! As for Denver, I lived in Highlands Ranch and commuted downtown for a few years. That was rough. I found that Denver drivers just were not all that friendly and were always battling one another. Lots of attitude. In Dallas, I commuted from Frisco (a northern suburb) to near downtown. That too was crowded, but drivers there are faster, less intense, and a lot more polite. Tollways are the norm in DFW now, and they are always packed (even if it is moving at a crawl). The most impressive thing about Dallas is how quickly they execute highway projects. We're talking 8 mile stretches of major highway expanded by multiple lanes and five-level overpasses completed in a span of two to three years. That has really helped to keep things moving.

We have the opportunity to move back to Denver this winter (looking at Castle Pines with a commute to Speer and Colfax). Based on recent visits, we may stay in ABQ just due to the lower stress here and the gorgeous weather. We love Denver, but the traffic. Yikes!

If you are looking at Castle Pines with having to commute to Colfax and Speer, you are looking at 1 hour on good days (during peak hours) and at least 2 hours on snow days.

Son please, experience I-85/perimeter area in Atlanta during rush hour, and they tail gate so hard, be careful on dead mans turn too.
