New doctor says he wants to give me victoza. This stuff is very expensive costing about 500.00 a month. I feel sure my state insurance has not and will not "approve" this medication for some reason. Has anyone else faced this issue. thanks

I have heard that insurance companies don't approve it until all other avenues have been exhausted. Is there any other meds he can prescribe? That seems awfully high.

Call your insurance company and ask how much they'll cover for Victoza. If they won't cover this drug, ask how much they'll cover for Byetta, a possible less expensive option; check with your doctor.

Byetta is taken twice a day and you have to eat within a certain time after injection. Victoza is taken once a day and is not dependent on when you eat.
