My endo believes there is. He tests my vitamin D levels every 4 months and yes when I was diagnosed with Type2 my D level was low. Many, not all, diabetics are deficient in D.

My endo checks my vitamin D levels, too. I was just slightly low in vitamin D.

Good question. I just had my bloodwork done last week and my A1C was 6.0 (was previously 7.1ish) and my Vitamin D was really low (don't remember the number).

When I was diagnosed with diabetes in December (7.2 A1c at the time) I also had an extremely low count of Vitamin D (17) so there could be a correlation.

I say definitely. I ran out of D and my A1c rose in three months so when I started back up again it improved considerably. I've always been told to take D every day.

I have wondered this also. I always loved to be out in the sun and get a good tan. My skin tans very well. I stopped sunbathing shortly before I was diagnosed with type 2 3 years ago and my AIC is 7.9. I am tempted to start sunbathing again just to see if it will help.

Why did you stop sunbathing? How much sun are you exposed to months before the diagnosis?

Are you Vitamin D deficient?

Interesting thread. I was diagnosed a couple of years ago with Type 2 diabetes. Then about a year ago I got more extensive blood work and found out I was low on Vit. D. Sure makes me wonder if there is a connection.

It's strange, but not everyone who is low on Vit D is diabetic but many diabetics test low on D. My adult sons tested low on D but are not diabetic. I became diabetic and then tested low on D.
