Hi, My BG went up to 450 last night and then dropped down to 212 a two hours later with the help of more medicine. But now BG is 190 and I feel real tired and shecky for some reason. I will be going to ER if this doesn't get any better soon.

Thanks, John

My gosh John, how did that turn out?

My Mom spikes. Sometimes she does it to herself and sometimes it's all rather mysterious.

Do you take acidophilus/probiotics? How about fiber? If you aren't consuming lots of fiber take a suppelment. Put down the white bread, step away from the loaf, put your hands on the top of your head...this sounds better with a bullhorn. Consider taking an Omega3 supplement as well. Mine is flax, borage and wild salmon. The Alpha-lipoic Acid is supposed to help. Also do some reading about chromium, opinions are all over the place. If you take a quality multiple vitamin you may be getting enough already. Drink plenty of water.

If you hit 450, John, you had better be on the way to the ER. I'm looking for the finger wagging emoticon.

I'm feeling better now because it's down under 200. I might still go ER because I feel dehydrated and tired. I have no family doctor or diabetic doctor.

Thanks, John

I'm standing here wearing an apron, hands on hips, furrowed brow. Oh yeah, and I'm tapping my foot.

No one is monitoring your diabetes? That doesn't work. I don't go to the Dr. for many things. I know when I need a tetanus shot, sutures, a cast. I get some bloodwork done once in a while to check for things which might be coming, family disease tendencies like heart disease and diabetes. I reluctantly have my annual physical and required tests every 18 months. But I don't yet have any chronic disorders.

Mom doesn't have a diabetic specialist, but between family practice, the cardiologist, the renal guy, etc, she's pretty much taken care of. Thankfully, someone alerted her to the fact that there is a free diabetic 'clinic' in her area. It's not a real medical clinic but has meetings, a nurse practitioner is in charge, various topics are discussed, you can ask questions.

Don't make me come over there.

I'm looking for a family doctor now and I've got a diabetic doctor already picked out. I might just go to a major city that is 90 miles from me to find a doctor if I cann't find one here.

Thanks, John

John that is awful high to be messing around with. When I was working in a drs office that was primary care/internal medicine the majority of our patients had dm2.

Blood gas like that was a ticket to a stay in the hospital.

Please take care of yourself and don't play around with this.....

Hi, What makes me feel real tired right now even when my BG is under 200 which is normal for me. It's like wanting to sleep standing up.

Thanks, John

It needs to be better than just under 200. That is still fairly high, IMO.

You need to see a dr as to the reasoning of your sleepiness. It could be such a number of things, John.

You need a Dr. pronto! Diabetes causes a host of other health related risks and issues. If you are on medicine you need a Dr. to write prescriptions for you so when you go to the pharmacy with no refills they will have somebody to call and you won't say "gee I will have to go without medicine now"

Diabetes is a complicated condition, and requires close monitoring. Having frequent high BG readings (over 200 qualifies) is when the damage is done.

Many states have programs to help indigent or low income people afford proper care, and the pharmaceutical companies have free or cheap prescription programs as well.

Ask around. And go to your local library and get a recent book on diabetes and read it. The US Department of Health and Human Services has a Diabetes Self Care Kit which is free. go to NDEP | Diabetes Information, Education, and Treatment and look for Documents DM-249, DM-274 and NDEP-13.

They are somewhat out of date but helpful.
