Hello mej1,
Your dad consuming a very big amount of sugar then he has to, you need to make him understand that it would be too risky to his health. Blood sugar level has to be normal as quick as possible and if not so then find some sugar alternative but it should be natural....

Sugar can of course effect his glucose but its the carbs that turn into sugar. You can cut out the lollipops but if hes downing 3 plates of lasagna a night, it doesnt do any good.

mej1,

Sorry to hear of your Dad's worsening health. Stevia is a great substitute for sugar. And some supplements to consider are curcumin (1g/day) & fish oil. Both of those work to reduce inflammation throughout the body. Check out some cookbooks from the library on Paleo. It's low carb & also works for diabetics. Dr Hyman's books are great, too. Unfortunately with prediabetes it's usually not a case of if one will develop type 2 but when they develop type 2. Metformin is great, but the diet needs to change for reversal.

Best of luck,
Frank
