I'm thinking about buying a meter this afternoon so I can keep track of it myself and if it goes up hopefully it will motivate me to make changes. No binge this weekend and there won't be one. I have had this overwhelming urge lately to exercise though and I'm wondering where that comes from? Still, surely I would not have any energy if my BS was too high would I? And I mean, I took a long walk yesterday and walked hard. When I dance I go all out. I don't know where this came from but it feels good.

It's the wonderful fall weather. Makes us all want to get out and about. I have been having to force myself out. Now? I can't wait to go. Enjoy.

And deer season lol. I live in the country and had to drive an hour to find a good safe state park to hike in but it was great.

I just took it for a test run and got a fasting reading of 106. That is kind of high for me and I hadn't eaten since noon. Last year I got a reading at the doc's office about 4 hours after lunch of 73. Should I check it again after eating to see how high it climbs or only worry about fasting readings?

However ---- it is a fact that, like Cool85, I have a sweet tooth and also a fact that I had really been over-dosing on cookies, candy, cakes, pies - the works, like I thought there was going to be a total lack in the future. All right. I cut out all the sugary foods. Even stopped putting sugar in my tea and cut back to 1/2 tsp sugar in my coffee. One month later, the glucose test showed 100. No A1C test then.Three months later, an A1C test showed 6.0. We didn't do glucose at that time. This month, the A1C test showed 6.1 and the glucose test 101. So, my question. Did those tests really indicate definite diabetes and, if so, can Type 2 diabetes revert to normal (no diabetes)? Or -what I am suspecting - did those first tests really only measure the huge dose of sweets I'd indulged in for several months?I know from years of paying attention that these flaws can happen with cholesterol. My cholesterol will be high if I've been having a lot of cheese, ice cream, etc., in the month before the tests but will be back down much lower - not as low as we'd like but lower - if I've not been having those foods. (I don't eat meat. So, that doesn't contribute.) If this happens with cholesterol, why can't it also happen with sugar?Opinions, please?
Hazel, there are a couple of considerations.

Anytie your blood sugar pops over 100 the medical so called professionals say you are diabetic and they want to put you on Big Pharma medication. You should listen, but you should also investigate alternatives to Big Pharma, and there are many.

I posted at length about this on another thread. Essentially you do need to cut back, if not eliminate sugars and to a lesser extent carbs.

You also need to start practicing good health through natural supplements.

You may want to check out The Blood Sugar Solution by Dr Mark Hyman

At your level of blood sugar, you will probably tip back down into the safe level with very few adjustments. Just keep in mind that bad things can happen very quickly, as I can attest. You are fortunate. You caught it early.

Best wishes.

Chuckmann, I'm going to be reading that. I suspect I'm where Hazel is or even worse b/c I just tested BS this morning and it was 126. Def makes me not want to eat sweets! I'm going to get this weight down b/c I don't want to take drugs and I've heard that metformin can use up your vitamin B-12 stores and affect your memory, though that could be from the diabetes or even impaired BS/insulin level itself.

Thanks. I'll check that out. I had no trouble dropping all desserts - other than plain fruit - but I still can't get the carbs down to the recommended level. The weight did come off as soon as I cut out those sweets but the carbs stay high. Good, healthy foods are replete with carbs. I visited a registered dietitian - only once!. She said don't count the sugars; just count the total carbs. There is too much contradictory advice around for anyone to know exactly what to believe. I find Mayo Clinic's suggestions easiest to understand and follow. Next, the experiences of those who have actually succeeded in their own control.

NO! From all the little hunters, 15 and under, who were allowed out with deer rifles this weekend! Several of my students got their deer this weekend.

Hazel, have you got one of those apps where you can track your cals? It will also tell you how much of what you ate was carbs, proteins, or fats. The one I use is Fitness Pal and it's a free app on my ipad and it has a huge database of foods. Trouble is, with my ADD and crazy busy job it's easier just to do intermittent fasting which is dropping the weight, and after the first day or two, I coast right thru to suppertime. I love loose jeans. What's scaring me though is that after being sugar free and intermittent fasting and having dropped at least a couple of pounds, I still managed to have a 126 BS this am.
