I've been wearing diabetic shoes for several years now. I was given a lead to an approved dealer who sold them by prescription through Medicare and my primary insurance.

You would not believe how much the insurance companies are being charged for them. I could buy dozens of regular shoes for those prices.

Well, for me they are. My toes are never squished or pinched, whereas in other loafers they are.

My mom is diabetic and is always having problems with her feet. She got her shoes from Smoppers.com. I know there are tons of different styles. They are a bit more $$$, but she has worn them for a few years. I think that website also sells their products on eBay as well. It's worth a google if you have the time. Good Luck.

With a prescription from a doctor, you can get Medicare to pay for diabetic shoes. You just have to be careful where you buy them from.

I'd try a dedicated shoe store where knowledgeable people tend to your footwear needs.

If one happens to be in the proper area, try SAS shoes (San Antonio Shoe Company). They have wonderful shoes, including wide and extra wide. I started wearing them some ten years ago, and they are really good for the diabetic feet.

I like the wider toe box in New Balance. Being diabetic, I will spend extra money for a good pair of shoes.

My doc just lectured me about foot protection after they got infected from a cut on the sole. Got Crocs for in-house as well.

I like the Dansko shoes. A little pricey but very worth it.

I bought some New Balance and they were expensive, but they had lots of room in the toe area. They were too wide to use when I ride my bike (couldn't pedal) and they also didn't fit in the straps for my spin bike, so I'm back to wearing men's tennis for that.

My doc lectures me too but I just can't bring myself to wear shoes in the house. Crocs are comfy but if you sweat a lot, sometimes they make that worse.
