As a newly diagnosed diabetic, I am shocked to find out you can eat what anyone else eats. I haven't had a slice of bread in years. I see recipes and menu plans calling for bread, pasta, crackers, even ice cream and donuts. They say they eat small portions, but those small portions are the same size as on the packages for everyone else!

Ex. half cup of ice cream

I don't even eat that stuff and I have high blood sugar. I do not eat starches, grains, and my only carbs are vegetables. Have even been avoiding fruits and juices and my blood sugar is up. I was told years ago I have insulin resistance, high insulin.

I eat chicken, fish, eggs, nuts, and tofu. Vegetables. But I am cutting out the vegetables to see if my blood sugar goes down, they might be the culprits!

Anyone else with this problem, and what do you eat? There isnt much to eat.

Just some info from a type 1 diabetic who has had the disease for almost 11 years.

Google search something like 'combating insulin resistance' - that is probably the root of your issue. Cinnamon is something i hear people take (a teaspoon of it a day) and it helps them. Try cutting out more processed foods, I hear high fructose corn syrup is notorious for causing insulin resistance.

Most veggies don't contain too many calories or carbs. Unless you are talking starchy vegetables, which they are not the best for blood glucose control. A well balanced diet is definitely the way to go.

Also, not sure how in shape you are, but activity REALLY helps. See, fat produces the hormone for insulin resistance (Resistin, i think). Good Luck!

High insulin, insulin resistance makes it nearly impossible to lose weight. I am far too tired now to exercise. I am dragging. I go to bed at 9pm, and I am yawning all morning at work. I can barely keep my eyes open.

I am past the point of exercise.
