I have a friend that was thin and smoked. He quit smoking, gained alot of weight and became diabetic. I'm not sure if diabetes is something that develops in your body like cancer and stays for several years before you know if you have it or not so he may have developed diabetes when he was thin.

Here's an ''Mens Health'' magazine article (may 2008) titled ''The thins man diabete's'' about the father of the man writing this story who at 6'3 and thin is dying in the hospital of kidney failure from type-2 diabete's.

The Deadly Truth About Diabetes - Men's Health

I myself am tall and thin (31 inch waist) and exercise/weight lifted for years and yet high or junk carbs will bounce me off the wall and my fingers tremble and my eyesight will partially blur and i'll get real moody (hypoglycemia) until i eat some protein and so although not diabetic (been tested A1c) i have to be careful myself and eat a moderate to low carb diet.
