If you can diet exercise to keep it at bay. It may also be inherited by race so there is another thing against you. But if you can try Chromium Percolinate. I used it for over 6 years and it worked well for it. I just got some other health issues and it kind of brought it to a head and now I am on meds, but slowly taking lower doses of them, and losing more weight/exercising.

Has anyone else here been pre-diabetic and been able to get your sugar back to normal levels without the use of medicine?? How did you do it? Any advice?
You need to start by losing 10% of your body weigh and exercise everyday for 30 minutes.

I cook for my living and 2 of the crew I work for have asked me for my help in loosing weight. Man # 1 has lost 48 pounds since Christmas, he had type 2 diabetes and was on medication....<<< Did you notice the use of past tense terms? He "HAD" and he "WAS"... He no longer needs his medication and his doctor is so pleased with him.

Guy # 2 had high blood pressure and has been on his diet for only 2 weeks, after only loosing 13 pounds, his blood pressure is more normal than it has been in a long time. He was not on medication yet, refused to take it and wanted to try this first. It paid off for him. (He also said he is sleeping so much better now)

High blood pressure and type 2 diabetes CAN be reversed by changing what and how you eat and most importantly, loosing weight! Pre diabetes should be a breeze to stop in it tracks! The ball is in your hands, it is all up to you! Good Luck!

Greens, greens and greens.

Alfalfa, Kamut, Wheatgrass...together with activated barley and rice bran solubles. You will NOT go wrong with these foods and it will help you getting the levels back to normal, I guarantee you.

There is a third element that is important for fighting diabettes (Diet and exercise are the first two). That third element is controlling stress. If you work in a high stress job where things have to be done yesterday or you are always in A New York State of Mind you may activate that fight or flight metabolism. One thing that happens is the liver starts dumping glycogen into the blood stream for instant energy. Glycogen is made and stored in the liver from glucose ie. sugar. Down state New Yorkers have one of the highest rates of diabettes in America and a factor is a stressful lifestyle. We also don't help it much by eating out a lot and at irregular hours like midnight. So take it easy and make time for lifes little pleasures and if possible get out of places like New York.

I am pre-diabetic as well and totally agree re the diet and exercise. I will be taking chromium picolinate and also R-Alpha lipoic acid also.

Stress is one thing that used to be far more of a factor in my life, and at one time I exhausted my adrenal glands with too much stress, too much caffeine, poor diet, etc. I have since retired and moved to South Carolina, where there is far less traffic and a slower pace of life. That has helped me considerably. Now I just need to get on the diet and exercise part more consistently!

Lose weight if you're overweight. If you're not overweight, you still need to excercise.

This is the reason your doctor doesn't want you drinking fruit juice. Even natural suger should be avoided as much as possible right now.

When you get it under control, you can try moderation---but moderation should be best kept for eating fresh fruit, not juice.

Diabetes runs in my family.

Every single family member (aunts, uncles, cousins, parents (dead)) has diabetes except for my sister and me.

We both have taken the risk very seriously. We have kept our weight under control throughout our lives and excercised.

Even with our weight under control, we both made diet changes when we were in our early 30---after our father died.

It's a huge lifestyle change when you get the wake-up call, but it's well worth it.

I've never been a big food person so the changes were easy for me.

If you have food issues and/or eating disorders, seek therapy. Your life depends on getting over those issues.

I also recommend joining a diabetes support group. Even finding one online would be beneficial.
I couldn't agree more with this poster. When I was diagnosed, I weight 208 pounds. I quickly made a lifestyle change to the point there I now work out 5-6 times a week, I eat very clean/healthy now, gave up fast foods, sodas, white rice, any foods made with flour, and any high sugar snacks/desserts. I now weight 175 pounds, and I thank God that my wake up call happened before it was too late.

I know I have to lose weight (A LOT of weight!) and I absolutely need to get out and move. I love fruits/veggies and will absolutely start eating more. I've cut back a lot on those fruit juices and have bought a few gallon jugs of water and only drink water when I'm at work. It's not that bad (LOL!)

Thanks again!
Have you taken Chia seeds?

Do a little search on them, they are miraculous and not very expensive. Yes they are the same seeds that are used for the chia pet novelty product.
You can buy at local health stores or order online.

They have been used for thousands of years for energy, health, and controlling excess sugar intake.

Balanced diet, exercise, and chia..... all the best.

Try any ways to reduce the risk of getting diabetes. Drink coffee and tea much. Eat much protein, not so much fat and carbohydrates.

Try eating a little bit 5 to 6 times a day. I've done it for 5 months and have dropped 10% body weight. Try to avoid white refined foods like rice and pasta...go whole wheat.
