THURSDAY, July 5 (HealthDay News) -- Overweight or obese white American women are more likely than their black peers to ask for dieting assistance, such as counseling from a medical professional, a doctor's prescription, membership in a weight-loss group, or advice from a trainer, a new study finds.

I think it's a cultural thing. Which I find pretty interesting. As a blcak man, who I hear some of my white friends call "fat", black men would say she's "thick", "fullfigured", or "Amazing"!

It's so funny because I'm seeing this switch thing going on. Where black women are beginning to be more conscious of their weight and becoming thin and skinny. But I notice some white women are begining to embrace their "curvature" and "voluptuousness".

I think it's the media jargon that get's played on people and everyone buys into it. I mean, what is healthy? Is it being 89 pounds or is it being 189? What is beauty? Is it being firm all over or being soft? Black and white culture is different in the respect of what we consider beauty. The "Badonk-a-donk butt" that is so negatively referenced in the Subway commercial is something most black men love about black and white women alike.

I definitely understand being healthy, but a lot of this, I believe, stems from societal preference.

I was talking to one of the drs at work about this very same thing about 2 weeks ago. Have been noticing some of the younger black women coming in for appetite enhancers. If they start to shed some weight they want it back.

Now, to be fair, there are some, who are extremely overweight, and get in line for gastric banding.

I don't want either...lol He brought me aside and said ya know, back in California, this situation would not be happening.....the culture is so different. Yep I say...
