There's no paradox. The Japanese eat well, they don't stuff themselves with rice 'til the balloon up and when used in decent quantities, rice is a good grain anyway, harmless at the very worst.

No wonder they look and stay healthy the way they do.
I feel a need to get in a dig at the other side

they ALSO eat prepared foods high in things no third grader could read , and they eat out a fair amount.

I think portion control is key - they do NOT supersize.

The Japanese who are mostly blood type As have a totally different body type than most Americans-- much more ectomorphic and fined boned with overall smaller musculature. Of course they thrive on a rice based low protein diet.

I don't see a "paradox" either. A paradox would be if they consumed significant amounts of food considered "unhealthy" and still have such a low incidence of heart disease, as do the French, whose diets have a lot of butter and other saturated fats in them, yet they still have a much lower incidence of heart disease. "The French Paradox" is thought to be due to the red wine the French people consume in much greater amounts than Americans do.

But they eat lots of carbs, which are considered unhealthy by the low carb set here.

as for the french, I think its been resolved that its a Med thing, not a french thing - northern france where they eat butter has much higher incidence of heart disease then Provence/languedoc, where they eat more fish and olive oil.

She could be an endomorph though. It is a generalization. Blood type As tend not to be as muscular and mesomorphic as blood type Os.

Charecteristics of the Japanese diet

More fish (including fatty fish) relative to meat and dairy

More rice relative to other grains

Lots of vegetables and fruits, including fruit for dessert

Lots of soy, but mostly in natural forms.

relatively small portions - but beautifully presented.
