Japan has high longevity, and low rates of heart attacks, even with similar blood cholesterol levels to americans. they also have low levels of obesity. this is not genetic - it doesnt hold for Japanese americans, for example.

Charecteristics of the Japanese diet

More fish (including fatty fish) relative to meat and dairy

More rice relative to other grains

Lots of vegetables and fruits, including fruit for dessert

Lots of soy, but mostly in natural forms.

relatively small portions - but beautifully presented.

doesn't "high health, low obesity" hold for just about all civilized/developed countries when compared to USA?

Japan is 38% blood group A.

ABO Blood Types World Distribution by People and Country

America, on the other hand, is *50%* blood group O.

some people seem to think that any grains (like rice) are bad, as are fruits.

The protein nutters have come to a point where they have to convince everyone that even fruits are bad for you because they contain sugar.

There's no paradox. The Japanese eat well, they don't stuff themselves with rice 'til the balloon up and when used in decent quantities, rice is a good grain anyway, harmless at the very worst.

No wonder they look and stay healthy the way they do.
