I lost 7%; the winner lost 8.67%. He was always ahead. Maybe If I had starved myself the last week or two, I could have won, but I didn't want to do that. He was nice enough to share some of his winnings ($410 was the total) with me and the third place winner, even though the contest wasn't originally set up that way.
Now that this contest is over, there's a chili cook-off contest at work on Friday! I'll have small portions; I'm only halfway to my goal weight. I've lost ten pounds, and I still have at least another ten pounds to lose. I'm still looking at this as losing five pounds at a time; that makes it seem less difficult.
This isn't great, considering it has taken me twelve weeks to lose ten pounds, but at least it's something - and other people are now beginning to notice. I had to go buy a couple of new belts, too, because I was already on the last hole of my existing belts.
Congrats on winning, and congrats on your decision to keep going! Twelve weeks to lose 10 pounds isn't really all that bad. Think of it this way: if you kept doing that, you'd lose just over 40 pounds in a year. That's like - a whole beer belly on the average middle-aged car mechanic

Instead of the chili cook off, go take a power walk. While everyone else is stuffed and feeling guilty, you walk in and look at them and tell them you just enjoyed the beautiful 70F weather and got some exercise.
Also, just poke more holes in the belt and save your money.
Congrats. I feel a bit frustrated, I have lost 20 pounds, since Thanksgiving, no one has noticed. But I fit into clothes better. Slow is steady I suppose. It is not how I lost weight when I was younger though.
I have to go buy a scale this weekend, because I was weighing myself at work and the co-worker who was letting us use her scale has now taken it home.
Jasper12, slow and steady is the only good way to lose weight at this age! I'm sure I could have lost twenty pounds by now if I were twenty years younger! Try to focus on the progress you've made - which is quite amazing, actually! Twenty pounds is a lot!
I signed up for "snacks" for today's chili cook-off, and it's just one of those veggie plates you can buy at the market. I figure if no one eats it, I can take it home with me. The only bad part? The container of ranch dressing in the middle!
