Just drove past Dunkin Donuts and thought of the donuts and eating the donuts and it turned out to be something I don't like. I no longer have a craving for them.
Ohhh... I love carrots in hummus! Sometimes tomatoes too (those little grape tomatoes) but carrots are best.
I don't really limit my diet much... I am more of an "anything in moderation" person. Although I tend to eat mostly fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean protein because I carefully count my calories and that kind of thing gives me more "bang for my buck" diet-wise. Things like fast food and doughnuts no longer appeal to me. I don't crave them and they are "too expensive" calorie-wise.
That said, I've been struggling to lose the last 12 pounds for several months now (losing 12 more pounds will put me in comfortably back in my healthy BMI range). I weigh myself weekly and the scale hasn't budged since late last year.
I started adding a little more exercise. But I am trying to cut a few bad habits out of my diet to help. #1 on the list, I put a teaspoon or two of sugar in my hot tea and I have a bad habit of not counting it when I count food. Doesn't sound like much until I mention I drink hot tea about 5-10 times a day. That's a lot of sugar or up to 80-160 calories a day or 560-1120 per week! I am hoping the combination of the cut and the added exercise will push me over the plateau and help me with that last 12 before summer.
I have been a rare consumer of fast foods for a long time, but still an occasional regular mountain dew. Most of the time, diet mtn dew. I will say that I eat more when I drink diet soda, so I should just give this up altogether too. But water just does not satisfy my thirst at all. It does nothing for me, and the taste of water, or lack thereof, is even a bit of a turn off. There are times when I can really take it down though.
I'm active. Work out 3-4 times per week, mixing high intensity cycling on the road with weights in the gym. I am 6'0" but I've been above 200lbs for 7-8 years now, at age 38. I attribute this to late night snacking. During the daytime, I'm actualy quite disciplined.
-grains
-processed foods
-sugar
-non local/organic veggies and fruits
-non grass fed beef
- non pasture raised chicken
- corn
- potatoes (although I may integrated local red potatoes into my diet at some point)
-Nightshade veggies (peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, etc) - supposed to inflame psoriasis
-Mostly any food readily available at the stores
I do about 90% of my shopping at local farmers markets. I do buy a few things at trader joes and whole foods (pickles, bacon, peanut butter) thats about it.
I've given up refined sugar, anything other than grass fed meats, milk with hormones/antibiotics, only wild caught fish, absolutely no processed foods, wheat/gluten products, stick to organic vegetables for the ones I cannot grow myself. I keep my own chickens so I have my own "clean" eggs to eat.
