I know I just have to get used to it and start creating a repertoire of go-to recipes that I love.
I think it's more the thought of having to do this for the rest of my life with no days off, ever, that is dragging me down. I can never eat out again. I can never travel without hassle. Every day I have to wake up and think do I have enough low-sodium food for that day, no more convenience foods ever. It's also so shocking at how heavily loaded foods are with sodium.
It's just overwhelming and frankly depressing.
I'm on a sodium reduced diet due to Kidney issues, my nephrologist has me paying closer attention to the sodium content for food labels, she says to try and keep the % number under 10.= https://daradirhan.files.wordpress.c...toes-label.jpg
make homemade dressings and ketchups with a 50/50 sodium potassium mix.. anyways staying under 1000 mg of sodium is unnecessary, just make sure your sodium/potassium ratio is around 1 to 1 and you'll be fine. You don't want to be consuming 5000 mg of potassium a day with only 1000 mg of sodium by using 100% potassium table salt combined with a high veggie diet, etc.
I agree; a friend's husband who has heart failure was advised to keep the sodium at 1500, not a 1000, but we all need to do what our doctor reccommends I guess. Luckily hubby and I have no dianosed reasons for keeping the sodium down we just think we should so I depend on mostly other herbs and spices, hubby almost drinks pepper and I make almost everything fresh. Even in the middle of the winter we have only fresh veggies and I always make our soups from scratch. Oh, I do salt things, but at lot less than I did 10 years ago.
Thanks for pointing that out NextStage,i too thought it odd all sodium readings were the same but it was too late to change the link.point was to show how reading ingredient lists can give you the information on how high sodium levels are in any given product.
It is surprising how much salt is in most foods. There are at least 4 different grocery stores near me and only one store carries "no salt added" versions of several foods. In my area, Giant is the only grocery store where I can find them.
