Sometimes it's just the little things, little victories that get thrown by the wayside but I'm going to mention one of mine. As a binge-type eater, I was easily triggered by certain foods. I'm sure many of us can relate to that. Deprivation diets really brought the worst in me because they'd make me obsess over food to the point where one cookie would trigger a day long bender of stuffing my face. Depriving myself of the trigger food only stimulated the obsession and one way or another I was going to eat a damn cookie, with far worse consequences (binge) and then guilt.

Instead of depriving myself and cutting things out of my life, I've worked on mastering the art of control. It took a while, but I can say now that I can eat a cookie, even two. And put the rest away. My girls made some out of this world cinnamon sugar chocolate chip cookies the other day. The bag is currently sitting on my island daily. I take one cookie per day, and if I'm feeling it, two. And then I close the zip lock and move on. I find myself doing that with many snacks now.

I have PCOS which comes with a nice plethora of problems. (Weight gain, near impossible weight loss, and irregular menstrual cycles are just a couple)

This is kind of TMI, but it explains the end result, so sorry, lol.

I have to take several medications to control it (aka stop the weight gain and crazy periods). Birth control is one of them. I've been on BC so long I typically don't have a period at all, but I do have period symptoms. I find that I gain weight, or at best remain stagnant, the week of my period. (I do not record the gains because I know it isn't an actual gain.) This month, in the middle of my pill pack, I started an actual period. This happens like once a year for some weird reason, probably due to the PCOS and the crazy things it does to my hormone levels. So for two and a half weeks, the scale did not budge. I was so frustrated!!!! I knew it would change once everything returned to normal, but I was still annoyed.

Due to the PCOS making me insulin resistant and other things, my specialist considers 2 pounds of weight loss per month a good thing. (Which annoys me because I gained it way faster than that!)

I stepped on the scale yesterday morning- down 1.2 pounds. Ok. I'll take it. That was for about 2 weeks, so that is what she (doctor) considers good. I have been losing more in the 3-4 pound per month range over the last few months, so I was a little disappointed.

I stepped on the scale this morning just out of curiosity. Down 2 pounds from yesterday!! So for two weeks, it was more like 3.2 pounds, which is what I consider a good month. But, I had already lost 2 pounds this month before the crazy PCOS symptoms got me. So it is 5+ pounds of weight loss, which is pretty much unheard of with my issues. (The doctor was happy with 11 pounds in 6 months.)

Who knows- maybe my body isn't done regulating back to normal and I will show more weight-loss tomorrow... One can hope, right?

I'm now just 0.2 pounds away from my first goal! I decided on multiple smaller goals to feel motivated instead of a giant 100+ goal. I haven't weighed this since fall of 2013. I've been overweight since middle school. But, I was able to mostly maintain the same weight for a long time. Around 2009/2010, that changed, and I gained 100 pounds over 5-6 years, with the majority of it in the first two years. So, I've gotten rid of the last 25 pounds I gained. 9 months though, which is frustrating. Of course, by my doctor's goal, it should have taken a year, so I guess I should be happy. (And I am. But I know other people can lose 25 pounds in a much shorter period of time.)

Down 10 lbs in 2 months, which seems to be due to stopping one of my prescriptions. I did spend the time being able to EAT for a change. Now I'm back on track and would like to be down another 5 (maybe 10) pounds. Didn't go to the gym for a variety of reasons, and now I am back with that!

I had a sort of good news / bad news incident yesterday.

During lunch I slipped because someone had dripped something liquid on the floor (we have polished concrete floors at work so it is already slippery).

My hands were full (carrying my lunch plate and utensils). But instead of falling, I ended up catching myself somewhat landing with my knee on the ground in a lunge like position. I landed on my knee, but not as hard as it could have been. And I was able to stand up and stay balanced. So my goal of improving my balance is working.

But today my knee is sore from the hard concrete. I have a bruise and soreness.

Great job! I believe in taking whatever my body gives me, especially when dealing with medical issues. That has to be the most frustrating of all, when medical issues are involved. Always remember it doesn't matter how long it takes, it's reaching the goal. Now that I've met my goalposts, at the end of the day, it really didn't matter how long it took to get there. I'm just there, and enjoying it.

To me, when I set foot in the gym, I know I'm back in the driver's seat. You'll get there.

Ok, great that it's a bruise/soreness vs. something more serious. Hang in there.

Can't say I have any progress of any kind to report. I am trying to up the amount of weight that I lift, however. We'll see how that goes. Decided to go get a DEXA scan for curiosity's sake next week. Visibly speaking, I think my body fat is in the low to mid 20s, but I don't know for sure. The test isn't terribly expensive.

Im going to share something that has helped me tremendously when it comes to the mental aspect of weight loss. Take lots of selfies with minimal clothing on (preferably with no clothes on). By taking pictures of yourself as you go along, you can see with your own eyes the transformation. Many times people only pay attention to big decreases but sometimes all it takes are the "little ones". Just the other day I looked at a picture of me at 190, then at 180, then at 170. I could visibly see the fat reduction over time and it inspired me to keep on. Sure, I was still overweight, but it was encouraging to see the shrinking me. Of course, the pictures are only for my viewing (and my husband's of course, lol!)

I increased my calorie intake by roughly 20% and often indulge my whims. Despite that, I still lose approximately a half-pound per week. Admittedly I'm more active now than before I lost the weight and find that part very easy to maintain, even in these dog days of summer. However, I'm definitely no longer calorie-obsessed, just calorie-aware. My wife was outraged the other night when instead of eating a third slice of pizza, I instead just enjoyed the cheese and shunned the dough (said I shouldn't be allowed to eat pizza until I remembered how). But while I was in a cheesy sort of mood, I didn't really want/need the calorie payload of the crust itself.

I looked good when I lost the first thirty pounds, even better with each successive ten-pound loss. And now that I'm down nearly 70 lbs overall, I no longer look better, just very different. But clearly, I'm not starving myself or walking around hungry. I see no reason to change anything at this point seeing how I am very comfortable with what I'm doing and not sacrificing anything at all.

My goal at this point is to re-evaluate things at the end of every month. If I continue to lose, it's only because I still can and continue to burn more calories than I consume.
Good for you! I'm getting there. I keep moving the goal post when I just need to stop. Do I look even better now than 10 lbs ago? well yeah, but would I truly look better at 140? No, I don't think so. If anything, I noticed now at my lowest weight my workouts are suffering. Can't pinpoint if there's a correlation between the lower weight and my performance but it's something I'm keeping an eye on.

Thank you! Not 100%, but pretty close to normal thankfully. Going to try working out this weekend, but nit spin class!

I got one a few weeks ago! Gonna do it to keep track of progess. We have a company running a mobile truck and doing the tests for $40-50 each.

Good tip. I am terrible at photos, but I took a pic with some friends today and noticed my face was slimmer!

See when you exercise you simply feel better about yourself overall. It's a mental as well as physical challenge. Got the dexa scan done this morning, lean body mass is 73.2% and body fat is 22.6%, which pretty much fits how I look in the mirror. I'm just glad that pounds lost wasn't a lot of muscle, which one has to watch out for. I guess these scans are accurate though the tech couldn't decipher the report my fat seems to be hips and thighs

Down 30 pounds since May 13th. ~30 more to go. Should get there in mid to late January.

It was difficult at the start, but now I'm on cruise control. I am eating 'cleaner' but at the same time I feel like I can eat almost anything as long as I keep my portions under control most of the time. I had a weekend where I drank 20 beers over the course of 4 days and recovered just fine. If you take 99 steps back, just take 100 steps forward. I'm not recommending this. Just saying it can be done.

My goal is 190, not sure if I'm actually going to get there though. I'm focusing really hard on getting stronger in the gym. I'll have to evaluate my body composition when I get down to 200 and see if I actually want to try for 190.
