I know it's not good for you, but I can't help it. I feel like it's an addiction as much as smoking or other vices.
On average, I drink about 2-3 cans or 1-2 20 fluid oz bottles of diet soda per day. The fake sugar is bad, but the scariest is the excess phosphoric acid. I heard that excessive consumption of phosphates can lead to ill health like heart disease. I believe the amounts in soda is not that much, but maybe it's a cumulative effect.
I just had some from a can I picked up somewhere, thought it was lemon/lime seltzer, turned out to be diet soda with Stevia. YUCK! too sweet and that fake sweet taste. Added more water, still gross, threw the rest out. I don't know how people drink that.
I’ve drunk diet coke for years, but have drastically reduced my consumption. In the hot months, I like keeping the mini cans in the fridge. Otherwise, I drink coffee, tea and flavored waters.
I'll occasionally buy myself a 12 pack of Diet Dr. Pepper, but it's not something that I drink everyday. I drink a lot of water and tea, but sometimes you want to crack open a cold can of pop. It is what it is.
I quit all soda pop and carbonated beverages in 2008 and have never looked back.
I do still drink coffee, either black or with a tablespoon of unsweetened cashew milk in it, about 1-3 cups a day
I drink water, herbal tea
Occasionally I drink those Baj waters or a zero calorie Propel which is just flavored water
Once in a very great while I drink orange juice but it's very rare
I make my own smoothies in my high speed Blendtec which is usually just fruits, leafy greens, cashew milk, sometimes Greek yogurt or tofu or fish collagen powder for a boost of protein
I drink various commercial plant milks, usually unsweetened cashew milk or occasionally almond milk or pea milk, hemp milk etc. (I can't tolerate cows milk though can other specific dairy products like Greek yogurt)
I gave up anything "fizzy" about 5 years ago. Hard at first, but now I don't miss them at all. I drink mostly brewed tea that I make myself, both hot and iced. Only sweetened with stevia (Truvia), no sugar at all. I sometimes drink a brand of flavored water that I like, no calories. But mostly teas. I find that soft drinks are now way too sweet for my taste.

I generally find soda to be too sweet, and always have, though I always did like A & W root beer. Currently the only soda I ever drink is the A & W Zero sugar. Over my lifetime I would estimate my average to be about 30 cans/bottles/cups a year, less than beer at 150 and much less than ice tea, homemade with no sugar at about 700.
If I were ever to indulge in soda again it would likely be in the form of a Root Beer Float. Those, I adore. A rather heavenly combination, don't ya think?
..just saw on a documentary that the average per capita consumption of soft drinks in U.S. is 600 cans/bottles/cups per year.
Do you drink that amount?
Or more?
Or less?
If no soft drinks, do you drink sweetened other drinks such as sweet tea or fruit or sports drinks
No particular reason for asking, just curious...
In my 20s, guessing I was at that average. Neither here nor there, on the road all the time and once I stopped drinking alcohol I switched to that.
30s, I realized as far as hydration goes they aren't too clever. Still liked me my Diet Pepsi a few years though. Up until I just about had heat exhaustion drinking all that on a long motorcycle ride. Lightbulb went on right about then.
40s, throttled that way back to a couple/day at most. Diet sodas only, was more particular about what I liked and because a Coke products man.
At 52, due to weight loss surgery I was advised to never have another. Haven't in 14 months and could not care less. Never say never, but don't intend to ever have another soft drink or carbonated-anything.
I do, however, enjoy tons of Crystal Light. I like their lemonades and enjoy 32-64 oz/day...really just fortified water but flavorful. I keep 32 oz. Nalgenes around, 2-3 at any time. I may switch back to water at some point, then that will get old and the cycle will continue. I can pop in powdered Liquid IV when-needed, usually after hard physical activities.
Sugar free sodas far worse. If I had to chose drinking diet or non-diet sodas I would pick non-diet. Not only does diet sodas don't work it makes you want more sugar.
By not work what do you mean? Zero calories is zero calories. That's not the only reason I drink them though. Sugary sodas can make me sluggish.
Diet sodas don't make me want sugar.
