If you are diabetic, stay away from Pritikin and other super low fat diets. You will find yourself eating more carbohydrates, and you may have an unacceptable rise in your triglycerides which is very bad. Coronary artery disease and triglycerides are closely intertwined.

There are other diets to consider which are also mindful of fats but not in such a severe way. You might consider reading Eat Drink and Be Healthy by Harvard's Walter Willett. He gives a good overview on the many conflicting approaches to dieting to enable you to make an informed choice of how to proceed.

Pritikin diet is good for reducing obesity, but low fat diets( like Pritikin) are hard to stay on. I was on it for a while and was always hungry, but others have done very well on it.
Nathan Pritikin, the founder of it, died from committing suicide. This is not to suggest that the diet will lead to suicide.
