I'd rather be 10lbs over than heading for 6 feet under!

I agree. Also PR is what Banks wants- it is not out of the goodness of her heart. The media inundates us with images of 5'11 models who weigh 115 . Now certain celebs will say they dont condone this- please. Look at Kate Bosworth, Jennifer Aniston (recently) Kiera Knightley. The media promotes anorexia in subtler forms.

Then you hear how mystified everyone is that this disease is still a problem in our society. Anorexia is a control issue, its a disease, and its not fun. Even Jane Fonda was treated for bulimia, and said its a disease that filled the void in her life. I wish people could get smarter about this illness.

you guys, not everyone who is tall and thin (A) is anorexic (B) can help being thin anymore than someone who is naturally heavy can help that!
I'm over 5'9" tall and weigh 117 and can't gain at all. I feel I must keep trying however because all I hear is negative comments about my size....I must be sick, I must be anorexic, I must not ever eat, etc.
It gets tiresome. One should not assume a thin(I deplore the word skinny)person is thin because they try or want to be anymore so than you assume a heavy person chooses to. Perhaps we should stop judging anothers looks because we truly do not know what they are going through.

Aren't any models my size?? All you hear about is fashion models who are too thin and too tall and the plus-size models. Aren't any kind of modeling for women my size?? SHEEEESHHHH!!!

You guys should check this sight out: The Power Of Photoshop*Video. It shows how a person uses photoshop to change the features of a person - in this case, a fat model into a thin one. Pretty amazing.

It just goes to show how airbrushing can make the rest of us feel like sh-t. Even though I KNOW that these models on cover magazines may not necessarily look like how they are portrayed, I still feel like crap when I see them! Fashion magazines are bad bad bad!

IMO anyone over age 15 taking fashion ragazines as bible needs to rethink. I have a friend addicted to them who has had anorexia for 20 years. Its not pretty. To the above poster I wasnt critiquing someone if they weigh 115 if they are healthy. I am not a physician and do not judge people. By the same token Tyra Banks is a phony and has no business giving advice about this issue either.

I agree about the ragazines, foma. but just because Kim Basinger still looks 20 due to photoshopping should not make the rest of us feel like sh** This is a big problem in American society today. The very fact that the OP admires Tyra Banks is also an issue.

Even Michelle Pfeiffer has spoken about the plastic surgery obsession and how she doesnt approve. No one can make you feel bad about yourself, but people such as Helen Gurley Brown (10 face-lifts-editor of Vogue, etc.) have made a mint by publishing trash for young girls.

sunnyhelena - if I could read fashion mags w/o feeling bad about myself I would! You are much more confident than I am b'c it's an involuntary action for me even though I know a lot of these girls have had airbrushing done to be on the cover. I guess it's just wired in my brain to feel bad about myself when I look at these women. Good news is, I don't read fashion mags often! I know it makes me feel crappy so I try to avoid them!

An excellent therapist and doctor told me once he would ban all those ragazines. He worked with young girls with eating disorders. He is a specialist and I will get my medical and weight guidelines from medical science, educated physicians and those with intelligence, not Tyra Banks or some other garbage tabloid.

I know its hard though every time you go to the supermarket this trash is prominently displayed. Learning how meaningless it is, is the first step toward self-esteem.

Um ,those two photos were obviously photoshopped. I'm not saying people that skinny don't exist, but no way that they'd be used in a fashion photo shoot like that.
